(Nov. 12) GREENSBORO DEFEATS EMORY 1-0 IN FIRST ROUND OF NCAA TOURNAMENT
The 17th-ranked Emory Eagles dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to Greensboro College in the first round of the NCAA tournament, being played at Maryville College (Tenn.).

Both teams battled back and forth for most of the match until Greensboro's Robert Fricke scored on an unassisted goal at the 84:40 minute.

The match saw the Eagles outshoot the Pride 10-3 for the match, as well as have four corner kicks to none for GC.

Senior goalie Rohit Agarwal, playing in his final match for Emory, finished with two saves while playing all 90 minutes.

Emory ends the season with a record of 15-4-0 and a UAA record of 4-3-0. The record marks the best since 2003 when the Eagles finished the season at 16-3-1. The season saw Emory ranked as high as No. 6 in the country, while senior Karl Dix became the UAA's all-time leader in assists with 13.


(Nov. 7) EMORY SELECTED TO COMPETE IN 2005 NCAA DIVISION III TOURNAMENT
The 13th-ranked Emory men's soccer team has been selected to compete in the 2005 NCAA Division III men's soccer tournament. The Eagles will travel to Maryville, Tenn., where they will open play against Greensboro College (N.C.) Saturday, Nov. 12. The time of the contest has yet to be determined.

Emory, who is making its 10th overall appearance in the NCAA tournament and eighth under head coach Mike Rubesch, has already faced Greensboro College this season. The Eagles shut out GC 1-0 on Sept. 17.

The winner of the Emory and Greensboro match will face the winner of the Maryville College (Tenn.) and Transylvania University (Ky.) match on Sunday, Nov. 13 in Maryville.


(Nov. 5) EAGLES FALL TO CARNEGIE MELLON 1-0 IN DOUBLE OVERTIME
The 13th-ranked Emory Eagles fell 1-0 in double overtime to UAA rival Carnegie Mellon. Jonathan Browne scored the golden goal at the 101:53 minute to give the Tartans the victory.

Both teams played solid, physical defense for the match. A total of 30 fouls were called for the match with Emory being whistled for 13 and Carnegie Mellon 17.

Emory outshot Carnegie Mellon 16-7 for the match, but was unable to find the back of the goal. Eight of Emory's 16 shots were on goal, while CMU had 3. Rohit Agarwal finished the match with two saves while playing the entire time in goal.

Emory finishes the regular season at 15-3-0 and 4-3 in the University Athletic Association. The blue and gold now awaits word on the NCAA tournament.


(Oct. 30) EMORY DEFEATS CASE WESTERN RESERVE IN OVERTIME
Junior Chad Chambers scored two minutes into overtime to give the 11th-ranked Emory Eagles a 1-0 conference victory at Case Western Reserve.

Chambers scored the goal on an assist from Dix to help the Eagles improve to 15-2-0 on the season and 4-2-0 in the UAA.

For the match Emory outshot Case 15-9, with 11 of the 15 coming on goal, while Case had four shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Rohit Agarwal recorded the team's 14th shut-out victory of the season. He had four saves for the match.

The Eagles return home Saturday, Nov. 5 when they play host to Carnegie Mellon to close out the regular season. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Woodruff P.E. Center.


EAGLES SHUT OUT PIEDMONT 6-0
(Oct. 22) Freshman Patrick McFarland recorded his first collegiate hat trick to lead the 11th-ranked Emory Eagles to a 6-0 victory on the road at Piedmont College (Ga.).

Leading 1-0 at the half the Eagles dominated the second half with McFarland scoring all three goals in the final period. Senior Karl Dix provided two goals for the match, while junior Chad Chambers rounded out the scoring with a goal.

Defensively, senior Rohit Agarwal played in goal for the first half, while sophomore Keith Meehan and senior Eliot Stein played the second half. This marked Emory's 13th shut-out of the season in 15 matches.

The blue and gold return to conference play on Friday when the Eagles travel to face third-ranked University of Rochester (N.Y.). Match time is set for 5:00 p.m.


CARVER GETS HAT TRICK IN WIN
(Oct. 19) Patrick Carver picked up his second hat trick of the season, as Emory rolled to an 8-0 victory over LaGrange College (GA).

Carver added to his freshman point and goal records, scoring two of his goals in the first ten minutes of the game.  He added another goal, his 15th of the season, in the 84th minute of the game to cap off the Eagles victory.  Carver, who entered the game 15th in the nation in points per game and 11th in goals per game, has now scored a goal in six of the last seven Eagle games.

After entering the game ranked second in the nation with 1.0 assists per game, Karl Dix assisted on three more goals, increasing his season total to 15.  Over his past three games, the senior has three goals and six assists.  

The Eagles shutout their opponent for the 11th time this season, tying an Emory single season record set in 1995.  Eliot Stein picked up the historic shutout, the first of his Emory career.

Emory, the 11th ranked team in the nation, is now 12-1-0 this season.


(Oct. 16) DIX BREAKS UAA RECORD IN EAGLES' WIN
Emory University's Karl Dix had two assists to break the University Athletic Association (UAA) record for career assists, in a 7-0 Eagle victory over Brandeis University (MA).

The record breaking assist came on the Eagles' second goal of the game, when freshman Patrick McFarland put Dix's pass into the goal.  Dix now has 38 career assists, second in school history to Boris Jerkunica, whose 53 career assists came before the UAA was formed.

Dix later added two second half goals, one coming off of a penalty kick.  In his last two games, Dix has scored three goals and assisted on three others.  He now has seven goals and 12 assists for a total of 26 points this season. 

Patrick Carver increased his freshman record in goals and points, scoring the opening goal of the game.  He leads the team with 12 goals and 28 points.  Alex Grigalunas scored two late goals of his own to extend the Eagles lead.

Goalkeepers Rohit Agarwal and Eliot Stein combined for the shutout for the second straight game.  Emory has now shutout ten opponents this season, one shy of the team record set in 1995.

Emory (12-1-0), currently ranked 11th in the nation, will play a non-conference game at home on Wednesday against LaGrange College (GA), before starting a three game road trip, including two UAA games.


(Oct. 14) DIX MOVES CLOSER TO UAA RECORD IN EMORY WIN
Emory University improved to 11-1-0 with a 4-0 victory over University Athletic Association (UAA) rival New York University, a team ranked as high as 6th in the nation this season.

Karl Dix, Chad Chambers, Tai Doan and Patrick Carver each had a goal and an assist for the Eagles in the game.

Dix's assist on the game's opening goal was the 37th of his career, moving him to within one goal of tying the UAA record. He entered the game ranked third in the nation with 0.9 assists per game, and now had ten assists this season.

Carver now has 11 goals and 26 points this season, both records for an Emory freshman. He leads the team in both categories.

Rohit Agarwal and Eliot Stein combined for the shutout in goal, the ninth Eagles shutout this year.

Emory, now with a 2-1-0 conference record, will play another UAA rival at home in Brandeis University (MA) on Sunday at 11:00 AM.


(Oct. 1) CARVER MAKES HISTORY IN 4-1 EAGLE WIN

Patrick Carver scored two historic goals to help Emory University to a 4-1 win over conference rival Washington University (Mo.).

Carver scored the first Eagle goal of the day giving him 21 points this season, tying Boris Jerkunica (1983) for most points scored in a season by an Eagle freshman. The goal gave Emory a 1-0 lead with 24 minutes remaining in the first half.

Carver struck again in the second half, scoring off of an assist from Karl Dix. Carver now leads the team in points (23) and goals (10). He entered the game ranked 17th in NCAA Division III in points per game, and 16th in goals per game.

Dix's assist was his ninth of the season and the 36th of his career. The senior is two assists shy of tying the University Athletic Association record for career assists. Dix came into the game ranked fourth in the nation in assists per game.

Emory's other newcomers contributed as well. Patrick McFarland added a goal and an assist, and Tai Doan scored the Eagles final goal of the game.

The Eagles are off to their second-best start in school history. With its second straight win against the Bears, Emory, the ninth ranked team in the nation, improved to 10-0-0 on the season.


(Sept. 25) MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS RHODES COLLEGE 1-0
The 10th-ranked Emory men's soccer team remained undefeated on the season with 1-0 victory over Rhodes College. The Eagles not only battled the Lynx on the soccer field, but dealt with a steady rain for much of the contest due to Hurricane Rita.

Freshman Patrick Carver continued his stellar play with the contest's only goal in the first half. He scored on a breakaway with 20 minutes remaining in the first half.

Head coach Mike Rubesch gave credit to his defense which has only allowed one goal all year through nine games. Senior Jeff Collins led the way on defense to help preserve the team's eighth shut-out.

The Eagles now prepare for conference play and welcomes UAA rival Washington University (Mo.) to the Woodruff P.E. Center for a 12:00 p.m. contest, Saturday, Oct. 1. The match is part of Homecoming festivities at Emory.


(Sept. 23) MEN'S SOCCER VICTORIOUS AGAINST SEWANEE

Emory University (8-0-0) continued its winning ways with a 2-0 victory over the University of the South (TN).

Patrick Carver struck first for the Eagles, scoring his team-leading seventh goal in the first half. Carver was assisted on the goal by Chad Chambers, his first of the season.

Tai Doan scored his first goal in an Eagles uniform in the second half, with assists coming from Karl Dix and Patrick McFarland. Dix, who leads the team with eight assists this season, now has 35 career assists, the second highest total in school history.

Goalkeeper Rohit Agarwal picked up the shutout, his third of the season in four starts. The Eagles have shut out seven of their eight opponents this year.

Emory, now ranked 10th in the nation, has won its first eight games of the season for the fourth time in school history.


(Sept. 19) EMORY UNIVERSITY SHUTS OUT SHORTER 3-0
Emory University, the 12th ranked team in the nation, continued its perfect season with a 3-0 victory over Shorter College (GA).

Freshman Patrick McFarland led the Eagles, scoring two goals, his third and fourth of the season. Brandon Rust assisted on one of the McFarland goals and added a goal of his own, scoring off of a penalty shot.

Keith Meehan and Elliot Stein each spent a half in goal, combining for the Eagles' sixth team shutout in seven games this year. The Eagles' defense has only allowed one goal this season.

Emory, now 7-0-0, will play its first regular season home game on Friday against the University of the South (TN).


(Sept. 17) EMORY EDGES GREENSBORO COLLEGE 1-0
The 12th-ranked Emory men's soccer team continued its winning ways with a gutsy 1-0 victory over Greensboro College. With the win the Eagles move to 6-0 on the year, while recording their fifth shut-out of the season.

The two squads battled back and forth for much of the game, with neither team able to find the back of the goal. The game remained scoreless until the 83rd minute of the contest when freshman Patrick Carver scored on an unassisted goal to give EU the victory.

The Eagles return to action Monday when they travel to Rome, Ga., to face Shorter College.


(Sept. 14) MEN'S SOCCER RISES TO NO. 12 IN NSCAA/ADIDAS DIVISION III TOP 25
The Emory men's soccer team rose five spots to No. 12 in the latest NSCAA/adidas Division III top 25. The Eagles (5-0-0) are coming off a weekend that saw them defeat 11th-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan 3-1.

In the regional rankings Emory is No. 2 in the south behind Salisbury University of Maryland who stands 5-0-0 as well.

Through five games the Eagles have allowed one goal, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 22-1. After defeating NC Wesleyan on Saturday, EU went on to defeat Methodist College 4-0 as part of the adidas/Methodist College Classic.

Up next for EU is a trip to Greensboro, N.C., to face Greensboro College, Saturday, Sept. 17 at 1:00 p.m.


(Sept. 11) MEN'S SOCCER WINS ADIDAS-MONARCH CLASSIC
The 17th-ranked Emory men's soccer team moved to 5-0-0 on the season with a 4-0 victory over Methodist College (N.C.). With the win, the Eagles claimed the Adidas-Monarch Classic, while also recording their fourth shut-out of the season.

Emory took the championship after winning Saturday's match against 11th-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan 3-1.

Turning in a stellar performance for EU was senior Karl Dix. Dix made his presence felt all over the field, scoring two goals and recording two assists. Leading the Eagle defense was goalie Keith Meehan, who recorded his second shut-out for the year.

Emory lead 1-0 after the first half and increased the lead with three second-half goals for the win. For the year, the Eagles have out-scored their five opponents 22-1.

The Eagles take the week off before traveling to Greensboro, N.C., Sept. 17 for a match against Greensboro College. Game time is set for 1 p.m.


(Sept. 10) EAGLES DEFEAT NORTH CAROLINA WESLEYAN 3-1
In a battle of top 25 teams, the 17th-ranked Emory Eagles up-ended 11th-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan by a score of 3-1. With the win, Emory moves to 4-0-0 on the season.

The Eagles, taking the field against what head coach Mike Rubesch said was the best team Emory had faced in a couple of years, got on the scoreboard first thanks to senior Karl Dix. The lead would stay with the blue and gold throughout the half and three minutes into the final period. Wesleyan's Shawn Dixon scored the first goal of the year on the Emory defense to tie the game.

Emory took the lead for good with 32:31 remaining in the half on a penalty kick. Junior Brandon Rust scored the goal to put EU on top for good. An insurance goal was tacked on with three minutes remaining in the match when senior Jacques Edeline scored on a cross kick from Dix.

For the game, senior goalie Rohit Agarwal recorded seven saves to continue his stellar play in front of the net for the Emory defense.

The Eagles are in action Sunday in the final day of the Adidas-Methodist Classic when they face host school Methodist College at 2:00 p.m.


(Sept. 7) MEN'S SOCCER DOWNS HUNTINGDON COLLEGE 8-0
Led by Patrick Carver's four goals, the 17th-ranked Emory men's soccer team continued its winning ways with an 8-0 win over Huntingdon College (Ala.). With the win, the Eagles stand 3-0-0 on the season.

Emory has scored 14 goals the past two games. On Sunday the Eagles turned back cross-town rival Oglethorpe University 6-0.

Carver, a freshman, provided much of the ammunition for the Eagles with four goals. Junior Alex Grigalunas chipped in with two, while senior Karl Dix and freshman Patrick McFarland contributed a goal a piece. Dix also finished the game with three assists.

Head coach Mike Rubesch and his squad travel to Fayetteville, N.C. for the weekend to face North Carolina Wesleyan University and Methodist College. Emory faces N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., and Methodist on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.


(Sept. 4) EAGLES CLAIM OGLETHORPE SOCCER CLASSIC TITLE
The Emory men's soccer team improved to 2-0-0 on the young season with a 6-0 victory over cross-town rival Oglethorpe University. With the win, Emory claimed the Oglethorpe Soccer Classic title.

The Eagles opened the scoring at the 21:49 mark of the first half when junior Chambers scored off an assist from freshman Patrick Carver. Junior Brandon Rust upped the advantage with 15:23 remaining in the half to give Emory a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Joey Howie then scored the final goal of the half on a corner kick at 11:57 for a 3-0 lead that the Eagles would take into the locker room.

The score remained the same for most of the second half until little over six minutes remained in the contest when the Eagles scored three goals in a span of one minute and 30 seconds. At 6:10 freshman Patrick McFarland scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from senior Chad Denson. Less then 30 seconds later Emory found the back of the goal again at 5:47 when sophomore Andrew Zalk scored off a Joey Howie assist. The final goal of the game occurred at 5:08 when Patrick Carver, another freshman, scored off Howie's second assist of the game.

Up next for the Eagles is a trip to Huntsville, Ala., on Wednesday for a match with Huntingdon College. Match time is set for 4:00 p.m.


(Sept. 3, 2005) EAGLES OPENS SEASON WITH WIN OVER UT-DALLAS
The Emory men's soccer team opened the 2005 season on a high note with a 1-0 victory over 2004 NCAA tournament participant the University of Texas-Dallas. The match was part of the Oglethorpe University Soccer Classic.

Both teams opened play unable to find the back of the goal and entered halftime knotted at zero. The second half saw senior Jacques Edeline score with 20 minutes left in regulaiton to give Emory the lead. Edeline scored the goal off an assist from fellow senior Karl Dix. Senior goalie Keith Meehan recorded a solid effort with five saves.

The Eagles return to action Sunday with their second game of the tournament against host Oglethorpe at 2:30 p.m.
