final ranking in over 20 years, as the Eagles were ranked 13th in

America's (NSCAA) last poll of the 2007 season.
The 13th-ranking nationally marks the second-best final
ranking in the program's history. The 1984 men's soccer squad
finished the season ranked ninth in the country.
The Eagles were one of four University Athletic Association (UAA)
squads to be ranked in the final top-25. In addition, Emory
was one of just seven Division III institutions to have both its
men's and women's soccer teams to end the season ranked.
Emory received a bid to the NCAA tournament for the 11th time in
school history, and advanced to the second round of the tournament
in 2007. The Eagles finished the season with a 16-3-0

ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA TEAM
(Nov. 19) Emory University junior Patrick

Team for the 2007 men's soccer season. It marks the first
national honor of McFarland's career as an Eagle.
McFarland becomes the sixth Eagle in the history of the Men's
Soccer program to be named an Academic All-American. The
Eagles' last winners were Karl Dix and
Kevin McCarthy, who each garnered the honor
following the 2004 season.
McFarland led all Emory players this season with 12 assists, and

athletes who are chosen as members of one of the eight Academic
all-District first teams. Emory nominees represent the
"college division," which is composed of NCAA Division II and III,
and NAIA schools across the country.
17th-RANKED EMORY STUNNED IN 1-0 LOSS TO 21st-RANKED
REDLANDS
(Nov. 10) The University of Redlands' Max Bowman
scored his seventh goal of the season in the final minute of
regulation, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 win over Emory
University. The loss eliminates Emory from the NCAA
Tournament.
Bowman's goal came at the 89:14 mark of the match, off a cross from
Kody Andrew. The shot went just out of the
reach of a diving Keith Meehan, the Emory
goalkeeper, giving the Bulldogs the late goal and their second win
of the tournament.
"The shot that was hit with less than 50 seconds was a very nice
play," said Emory head coach Sonny Travis. "They pulled it
off."
The Eagles appeared to be the stronger team for much of the match,
outshooting the Bulldogs 10-4, including a 6-1 advantage in the
first half. However, Emory was unable to capitalize on any of
its chances, leaving the game a scoreless tie until the closing
seconds of the match.
"It was very unfortunate," said Travis. "I thought we played
a strong match. We had 10 shots on goal, and some of them
were great opportunities."
Redlands goalkeeper Andy Roraff recorded his 12th
shutout of the season in goal, converting four saves in the
process.
"Their goalkeeper was outstanding," said Travis. "I thought
he was the best goalkeeper we've played all year."
With the loss, Emory drops to 16-3-0 this season, and to 7-1-0 in
games at the Woodruff P.E. Center. The 16 wins are a
program-best mark.
The match was also the final career game for Emory seniors
Andrew Zalk, Alex Diego,
Keith Meehan and Troy
Gams.
The University of Redlands will advance to the tournament's
sectionals, where they will face the winner of tomorrow's Virginia
Wesleyan - Salisbury match.
CARVER NAMED UAA PLAYER OF THE YEAR; SIX OTHER EAGLES
RECEIVE HONORS
(Nov. 9) Emory University's Patrick
Carver was named the University Athletic Association (UAA)
Player of the Year, and six other Eagles were recognized, as the
all-UAA Men's Soccer Teams teams were announced on Thursday.
Carver becomes the sixth Emory player to garner the honor, and just
the third underclassman to do so. Prior to this season, the
last Eagle to earn the honor was Matthew Levine in
2003. Carver earned UAA Rookie of the Year honors and an
honorable mention to the all-UAA team in 2005, and was named to the
all-UAA second team in 2006. The junior was the only Emory
player honored by the UAA this season that had been named to an
all-UAA team in previous seasons.
Carver led all players in the UAA with 16 goals and nine assists
for 41 points this season. He was also the top scorer in UAA
games this season, recording six goals and five assists for 17
points, two shy of a UAA single-season record. His seven
game-winning goals this season and 13 over his career tie school
records.
In addition to Carver, Marc Del Marmol,
Andre Jakubowski, Patrick
McFarland and Keith Meehan were each
named to the all-UAA second team, and Alex Diego
and Jordan Edelman each received honorable
mentions.
Del Marmol has excelled this season as a defensive central
midfielder, helping Emory to a 0.65 goals against average,
including a 0.82 mark in UAA matches. On the offensive side
of the ball, the junior has one goal and five assists for seven
points this season.
Jakubowski serves as a central back for the Eagles, helping to shut
down opposing forwards throughout the year. The Eagles' 0.82 team
goals against average during UAA play was the second-best total in
the conference. The junior has contributed on the
offensive side of the ball as well, scoring three goals, including
two game winners, and one assist.
Junior forward Patrick McFarland leads all players in UAA games
with six assists, and is second with five goals and 16
points. He is 19th in the Nation in assists per game and 65th
in points per game. McFarland finished the 2007 regular
season with 12 goals and 12 assists for 36 points, the second-best
mark on the squad this season.
Senior goalkeeper Keith Meehan started every match for the Eagles
this season, and played in every minute of Emory's UAA
matches. His 0.69 goals against average puts him on pace to
set a new school record, and his 16 wins match an Emory
single-season best. Meehan has also been an outspoken leader
on the field for the Eagles.
Alex Diego, attacking central midfielder, leads the offensive
attack on the UAA's top-scoring team. He has scored three
goals and assisted on three, including a goal against New York
University. Diego produced countless chances on goal and his
defensive efforts have helped Emory to a 0.65 GAA this year.
As an outside back, Jordan Edelman has helped the Eagles to a 0.82
team goals against average during UAA play, the second-best total
in the conference. The junior has also contributed on the
offensive side as evidenced by his goal and four assists during the
2007 campaign.
The Eagles finished second in the UAA in 2007, falling just two
points short of the championship with a 6-1-0 record in conference
matches. Emory, which received an at large bid to the NCAA
Tournament and a first-round bye, will host the University of

(Calif.) and University of California - Santa Cruz match to be held
on Wednesday, November 7th at Redlands.
This will be 11th time in the program's history that the Eagles
have been selected to the NCAA Tournament, and the 10th time they
have advanced into the second round.
Emory finished the 2007 regular season ranked 17th in the Nation

NO. 17 EMORY FINISHES SECOND IN UAA
(Nov. 3) The University of Rochester (N.Y.) defeated Case
Western Reserve University (Ohio) 3-0 to clinch the University
Athletic Association (UAA) Championship and eliminate 17th-ranked
Emory University from contention.
The Eagles will finish second in the UAA, despite winning their
final match of the season against Carnegie Mellon earlier in the
day. Emory finished its UAA schedule with a 5-1-0 record,
with its only conference-loss coming to the 5-0-1
Yellowjackets.
The 2007 season marks the best-conference finish for the program
since the 1998 team finished atop the UAA. The Eagles were
the top-scoring team in the conference this season, and had the
second-lowest team goals against average.
Emory will now be forced to wait until Monday to learn of its
postseason fate. Although it remains very likely the Eagles,
16-2-0 in 2007, will receive an "At-Large" bid to the NCAA
Tournament, without the automatic bid Emory's future is now in the
hands of the Tournament committee. Tournament selections and
seedings will be posted to ncaasports.com Monday morning.
NO. 17 EAGLES WIN SEASON FINALE; AWAIT RESULTS FROM
CLEVELAND
(Nov. 3) The Emory University Men's Soccer team put itself in
position to win its first University Athletic Association (UAA)
title since 1998, defeating Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) 4-0 to
take sole possession of first place in the Association for the
first time this season. The Eagles will now await the results of
the University of Rochester's (N.Y.) match at Case Western Reserve
University (Ohio), to see if they will claim the UAA Championship
and automatic bid associated with it.
Rochester and Case will face off in Cleveland at 5:00 PM
today. Should Rochester lose or tie, the Eagles will win the
UAA title outright, and will be assured a berth into the NCAA
Tournament. If Rochester wins, the Eagles will have to wait
until Monday for an at large bid, which they are very likely
(although not assured) to receive.
The Eagles' pair of star forwards, Patrick Carver
and Patrick McFarland, each scored two goals
during the match, marking the eighth time in 18 games this year
that both have recorded goals for Emory. Carver now has 16
goals this season, a new career-best and the most by an Eagle since
Matthew Levine scored 16 in 2002. The junior forward leads
all Eagles scorers with 41 points this season, the eighth-best
single-season total in school history.
McFarland, who also recorded an assist in the game, is right behind
Carver with 36 points this year. His 12 assists is the
eighth-best single-season mark by an Eagle.
The Eagles were paced defensively by goalkeeper Keith
Meehan, who recorded his fifth shutout of the season (the
team's ninth), and tied the school record for wins in a season by a
goalkeeper at 16. In addition, Emory matched a program record
with 16 wins this season.
The game also served as 'Senior Day' for the Eagles, as seniors
Andrew Zalk, Troy Gams, Alex
Diego, and Meehan each played in the final regular-season
home match of their Emory careers.
The win raises the 17th-ranked Eagles' record to 16-2-0 this season
and 6-1-0 in conference matches. It also snaps Emory's
eight-match winless streak to Carnegie Mellon, during which the
Eagles' recorded a 0-7-1 record against the Tartans.
EDELMAN AND MCFARLAND NAMED TO THE COSIDA ACADEMIC
ALL-DISTRICT TEAM
(Nov. 1) The Emory University Men's soccer team had two
of its key components honored Thursday, as juniors Patrick
McFarland and Jordan Edelman were both
named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team.
The honor is awarded annually to student athletes who have excelled
both academically and athletically. McFarland and Edelman
were each named to the Academic All-District second team last
season, during their first year of eligibility for the
honor.
McFarland leads all Eagles players this season with 11 assists, and
is second on the team with 10 goals and 31 points. The
forward has also recorded two game-winning overtime goals, and his
0.65 assists per game is the 19th-best ratio in the Nation.
He has compiled a 3.71 grade point average while majoring in
Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology.
Edelman has started every game for an Emory defense that has
recorded a goals-against average of 0.69 this season, the
41st-lowest mark in Division III. In addition, the defender
has contributed on the offensive side of the ball as well, scoring
a goal and assisting on three other during the season.
Edelman is a business major with concentrations in finance and
organization and management, and is attempting to complete a minor
in economics. He has recorded a cumulative 3.78 GPA.
By virtue of earning a spot on the Academic All-District first
team, McFarland and Edelman will be placed on the ballot for the
CoSIDA Academic All-America team. Voting for the Academic
All-District team is conducted by the College Sports Information
Directors of America. Emory nominees represent the "college
division" in District 3 which is composed of NCAA Division II and
III, and NAIA schools in the states of Florida, Georgia, North
Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
17th-RANKED EMORY TO MAKE A RUN AT THE UAA TITLE ON
SATURDAY
(Oct. 31) Trailing the University of Rochester (N.Y.) by
one point in the University Athletic Association (UAA) standings
heading into its final regular season game of the year, 17th-ranked
Emory University will face Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) with a
chance for the Association title.
Should the Eagles win and Rochester lose or tie, Emory will claim
the UAA title outright, and the automatic bid. There are also
a number of scenarios where the Eagles could win or tie and finish
as co-UAA Champions with Rochester and/or Washington University
(Mo.), but would not earn an automatic bid based on
tiebreakers.
THE TEAMS
The Eagles will enter Saturday's match with a 15-2-0
record, including a 5-1-0 record in UAA games, good for
second-place in the conference. Emory is ranked 17th in the
Nation and third in the South Region according to the latest
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll.
The Eagles are coming off two conference wins last weekend,
including a 4-0 victory over Brandeis University (Mass.) and a 4-2
win over New York University.
Carnegie Mellon is 9-4-2 this season, but has fallen to
seventh in the UAA with a 0-4-2 record in Association play.
Emory is 9-9-2 all time against the Tartans, but has struggled in
recent years, going 0-7-1 in their last eight matches with
Carnegie, despite the fact that each of the five losses were
decided by two goals or less. The Eagles suffered a 2-0 loss
to the Tartans last season.
THE COACHES
Emory is coached by Sonny Travis, who is
in first season at the Eagles' helm. He recently became just
the 27th coach in Division III history to record 300 career wins,
when the Eagles picked up the milestone victory on September 15th
against Heidelberg College (Ohio). Travis comes to the Eagles
after an 18-year stint at Virginia Wesleyan College, where he 13
appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Travis holds a career
record of 309-94-37, and has the 14th-best winning percentage
all-time among Division III's coaches. Travis is assisted by
Jacques Edeline and Ben McKenzie.
The Tartans are coached by Nick Gaudioso, who has compiled
a 315-130-42 career record, including a 295-113-37 mark during his
27-year career with Carnegie Mellon. He is a four-time UAA
Coach of the Year, and has now led his team to 22 winning seasons
in the last 25 years. Gaudioso is assisted by Rob
Czionka.
EMORY NOTES
The Eagles are one win shy of tying the school records for
victories in a season... This is the seventh squad in school
history to win at least 15 games... Should the Eagles win Saturday,
it will mark just the second time in school history that Emory has
won all of its regular-season home matches... The Eagles have
scored a combined eight goals in their last two UAA games, the most
since they scored a combined 11 goals against New York and Brandeis
in 2005... Emory is ranked 21st in the Nation in scoring offense
(3.18) and 41st in goals against average (0.69)... Patrick
Carver is ranked 27th in the Nation in points per game
(2.25), 31st in goals per game (0.88) and 41st in assists per game
(0.5)... Patrick McFarland is 19th in the Nation
in assists per game (0.65) and 65th in points per game (1.82)...
Keith Meehan has the 48th-lowest goals against
average (0.735) in the Nation.
JAKUBOWSKI HONORED AS A UAA ATHLETE OF THE
WEEK
(Oct. 30) Emory University junior Andre Jakubowski
was named the Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week by the
University Athletic Association (UAA) for his performance during
last week's matches against Brandeis University (Mass.) and New
York University.
Jakubowski was part of a defense that held opponents to two goals
and scored a goal himself as the 17th-ranked Eagles won a pair of
weekend matches. He helped the Emory defense posted its
eighth shutout of the season in a 4-0 triumph over Brandeis
University, holding the Judges to four shots (two on goal). Two
days later, the junior scored the game-winning goal on a header in
the 26th minute during a 4-2 win over New York University.
Jakubowski has now scored three goals this season (two of which
were game winners) and has helped Emory to a 0.69 goals against
average this season. The Eagles will host Carnegie Mellon
University (Pa.) on Saturday, with an opportunity for the UAA
Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament should
they win, and the University of Rochester (N.Y.) lose or tie.
UAA AUTOMATIC BID TO BE DECIDED ON THE FINAL DAY OF THE
SEASON
(Oct. 29) With just one game remaining in the regular
season, three University Athletic Association (UAA) teams are still
alive for the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, awarded to the
team that finishes atop the Association's standings.
Currently, the University of Rochester (N.Y.) leads the pack with
16 points (5-0-1 in conference play), followed by Emory University
with 15 points (5-1-0 in conference play), and then Washington
University (Mo.) with 13 points (4-1-1 conference
record).
Although all three teams could potentially tie for the UAA Regular
Season Championship, only one can be awarded an automatic bid,
while the other teams would then need to wait for an At-Large bid
from the NCAA Division III Tournament committee.
In order for the Eagles to earn the automatic bid, they would need
a win in their final regular season match, coupled with a Rochester
loss or tie. Any other scenarios, based on the UAA
tiebreaking procedures, would result in either the Yellowjackets or
the Bears receiving the bid.
All three teams will play their final regular season conference
game next Saturday. The Eagles will host Carnegie Mellon
University (Pa.), while Rochester will travel to Case Western
Reserve University (Ohio) and Washington University (Mo.) will be
at the University of Chicago (Ill.).
Should the Eagles not receive the automatic bid, they will have to
wait until Monday, November 5th, when the At-Large teams and the
tournament bracket will be announced on www.ncaasports.com at 9:00
AM.
17th-RANKED EMORY UPSETS 16th-RANKED NEW YORK
(Oct. 28) In what could be considered a statement game for the
Emory University Men's Soccer team, the 17th-ranked Eagles defeated
the 16th-ranked New York University Violets 4-2 at the Woodruff
P.E. Center.
The Eagles scored three goals in the first half, each coming off a
set play. Emory notched their first score of the match in the
10th minute, when a Patrick McFarland throw-in
from the far sideline made its way into the box, where Marc
Del Marmol headed it off a Violets defender into the
goal.
Seven minutes later, the Eagles struck again off a McFarland throw
in to Joey Howie. Howie turned on the ball,
crossing it to Alex Diego who headed it in for the
goal, to give Emory a 2-0 lead.
In the 27th minute, Patrick Carver took a short
corner kick from Howie, then passed it back to Howie who crossed it
over the middle of the box to defender Andre
Jakubowski, who haded the ball in for the goal.
The Violets made an attempt at a comeback, scoring two goals in the
second half, including one in the 83rd minute to pull the match to
within a goal. However, with just 1:07 remaining in the
match, McFarland beat the goalkeeper off a pass from defender
Erik Laney, scoring his 10th goal of the
season.
McFarland play during the match continues a strong streak of games
for the junior forward. He has now scored three goals and
three assists over the past three Emory games, and is second on the
team this season with a career-best 31 points.
The win brings Emory's record to 15-2-0 overall and 5-1-0 in the
University Athletic Association (UAA), while NYU falls to 12-4-1
and 3-3-0 in conference play. Should the University of
Rochester (N.Y.) either lose or tie their match today with the
University of Chicago (Ill.), the Eagles will assume sole
possession of first place in the UAA with one match remaining this
season.
NO. 17 EMORY PICKS UP WIN OVER CONFERENCE-RIVAL
BRANDEIS
(Oct. 26) Patrick Carver and Patrick
McFarland each recorded a goal and an assist, as
17th-ranked Emory University defeated Brandeis University (Mass.)
4-0 on Friday. The win brings the Eagles' record to 14-2-0 in
2007, and to 4-1-0 in University Athletic Association (UAA)
games.
Carver's goal was the eventual game winner for the Eagles, coming
in the 17th minute of the match off assists from McFarland and
Alex Diego. The goal was the 14 of the
season for the junior forward, and the 13th game-winning goal of
his career, matching the school record.
The Eagles added insurance less than a minute and a half later, as
McFarland notched his ninth goal of the season, off assists from
Carver and Jack Eisen-Markowitz. The goal
was McFarland's ninth of the season, matching his career best set
during his freshman season in 2005.
A scary moment came for the Eagles in the first half when a foul
resulted in a direct kick for Brandeis from just outside of the
box. However, senior goalkeeper Keith Meehan
made a diving save, deflecting the ball out of bounds on the near
sidelines. Emory cleared the ball on the resulting throw in,
thwarting the Judges' scoring attempt.
Meehan would have to weather just one other shot on goal during the
game, as the Eagles' defense helped the team to a 13-2 advantage in
the category. The shutout was Emory's eighth of the season,
and Meehan's fourth individual.
Senior Andrew Zalk added two late goals for the
Eagles in the second half, his fourth and fifth of the season, to
extend the Emory lead and secure the victory.
The Eagles will now scoreboard-watch this evening, particularly the
Washington University (Mo.) and University of Rochester (N.Y.)
match tonight. Should Washington defeat Rochester, all three
teams will be tied atop the UAA standings.

NO. 17 EMORY'S MCFARLAND STRIKES GOLD IN 2-1 OVERTIME
VICTORY OVER GREENSBORO
(Oct. 20) Trailing Greensboro College (N.C.) 1-0 with less than two
minutes remaining in the match, Emory University, ranked 17th in
the Nation, needed some heroics. That was exactly what the
Eagles got, winning 2-1 in overtime, and writing another exciting
chapter in their rivalry with Greensboro.
After both teams went scoreless throughout the first half of play,
Greensboro struck quickly in the second half, scoring on a Bobby
Dabbs goal, and taking a 1-0 lead into the final minutes of
regulation.
However, with less than nine minutes remaining in regulation, a
Greensboro player drew a red card, giving Emory a player-advantage
for the rest of the match. The Eagles would take advantage of
the red card, as Alex Diego scored the game-tying
goal on a header in the 89th minute of the match, sending the game
into overtime.
The goal was Diego's second of the season. The senior now has
six points during the 2007 campaign.
In overtime, Patrick McFarland played the role of
the hero for the Eagles, scoring his second ‘golden goal' of
the season with 4:22 remaining in the initial extra period.
The goal was the eighth of the season for the junior, one shy of
his career best. Patrick Carver recorded his
sixth assist of the season on the goal.
The game-winning overtime goal was the third of the season for the
Eagles, who improved to 3-1-0 in overtime matches this
season. The match was the second-consecutive overtime game
the Eagles have played, and the third in the last six matches.
The dramatic victory is just the latest in the Eagles' series with
Greensboro, as Emory improved to 7-12-0 all time against the
Pride. The Eagles have now won four of the last six meetings
with Greensboro, and have taken two-straight matches with the Pride
for the first time in the history of the programs' meetings.
With the win, Emory improves to 13-2-0 in 2007, and will finish the
regular season with a 5-2-0 record on the road. The Eagles
will conclude the regular season with three home matches against
conference opponents, beginning with a game against Brandeis
University (Mass.) on Friday at 5:00 PM.
NO. 17 EMORY TAKES ON GREENSBORO: A RIVALRY
RENEWED
(Oct. 17) Another page will be written in what has become one of
the better rivalries in Division III soccer, as 17th-ranked Emory
University will travel to Greensboro College (N.C.) for the
19th-meeting between the two South Region powerhouses. The
match is set for Saturday at noon.
THE HISTORY
The two teams will be facing each other for the
16th-consecutive season. Of the previous 18 meetings, at
least one of the teams has been ranked nationally 12 times, and
both teams have been ranked in four of the matchups. The
Pride initially dominated the matchup, winning seven of the first
eight matches, but Emory has played even with Greensboro in recent
years, splitting the last 10 games. Emory and Greensboro have
met three times in the NCAA Tournament, with the Pride winning each
of the three postseason games. There have been four overtime
matches between the teams, with Greensboro holding a 3-1-0
advantage.
Perhaps the most meaningful match of the series came during the
1998 season, when Emory hosted Greensboro on October 13th.
With the Eagles trailing 4-2 with just 23 minutes remaining,
All-American Ahmed Mohyledin scored two goals (including the game
winner with less than two minutes remaining) and assisted on
another to give Emory its first victory over the Pride since
1993. Mohyeldin finished the 5-4 win with four goals and one
assist.
THE TEAMS
Emory will enter the match with a 12-2-0 record in 2007,
including a 4-2-0 record in road games this season. The

seventh-ranked Case Western Reserve University (Ohio), and a 1-0
double-overtime loss to the University of Rochester (N.Y.), the
Eagles' first loss to a Division III opponent during the
campaign. Emory is ranked 17th in the Nation and third in the
South Region, according to the latest National Soccer Coaches
Association of America (NSCAA) poll.
Greensboro College holds a 9-3-2 record in 2007, including a 5-1-0
mark at home. After opening the season with seven-straight
wins, the Pride have gone just 2-3-2 in their last seven
matches. The Pride hold a 12-6-0 record against Emory, but
the Eagles won last year's match 3-0. Alex
Diego and Marc Del Marmol each scored a
goal in the game and Patrick Carver recorded two
assists. Although Greensboro is currently unranked
nationally, they spent three weeks earlier in the season as the
second-ranked team in Division III. The Pride are currently
ranked ninth in the South Region.
THE COACHES
Emory is coached by Sonny Travis, who is
in first season at the Eagles' helm. He recently became just
the 27th coach in Division III history to record 300 career wins,

after an 18-year stint at Virginia Wesleyan College, where he 13
appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Travis holds a career
record of 306-94-37, and has the 14th-best winning percentage
all-time among Division III's coaches. Travis is assisted by
Jacques Edeline and Ben McKenzie.
Greensboro is led by head coach Bill Brady, who is in his third
year with the Pride. He has taken his squad to the NCAA
Tournament in each of his two previous seasons, compiling a 31-19-6
record. Brady is assisted by Matt Brown and Charlie
Rierson.

NO. 10 EMORY DROPS HEARTBREAKER TO
ROCHESTER
(Oct. 14) The 10th-ranked Emory University Eagles suffered their
first loss of the season to a Division III opponent, dropping a
1-0, double-overtime decision to the University of Rochester
(N.Y.).
With 4:50 left in the second overtime, a Rochester corner kick
sailed well wide over left sideline after it was deflected by the
Emory defense, resulting in a Yellowjackets throw in. With
Yellowjackets flooding the box, Bobby Milenovici headed the ball
into the low right corner at 106:03 to win the game..
The match was a highly physical defensive battle, as the two teams
combined for just six shots on goal, while registering 28
fouls.
Emory had two scoring opportunities thwarted in the first
overtime. With 1:58 left, the Eagles had a two on one break.
Patrick Carver carried the ball to the edge of the
box and played it back to Patrick McFarland who
dribbled into box and shot, but the save was converted by the
Rochester goalkeeper, Michael Peacock. With 50 seconds left,
McFarland tried to loft the ball into the top left corner, but
Peacock leaped to grab it just as Carver ran to the back post.
Despite taking the loss in goal, goalkeeper Keith
Meehan played well, converting three saves in 106
minutes. The senior now has 35 saves and a 0.68 goals against
average this season.
With the loss, Emory falls to 3-1-0 in conference play, three
points behind Rochester for first place in the University Athletic
Association (UAA). Emory is now 12-2-0 this season, and will
face Greensboro College (N.C.) on Saturday for its final
non-conference game of the 2007 regular season.

NO. 12 EMORY UPSETS 11th-RANKED WASHINGTON
3-0
(Oct. 7) The Emory University men's soccer team, ranked 12th in the
Nation, picked up a key conference victory, defeating University
Athletic Association (UAA) rival and 11th-ranked Washington
University (Mo.), 3-0, at the Woodruff P.E. Center.
"Washington University is a quality team," said Emory Head Coach
Sonny Travis. "I'm very pleased with how our guys
played. We came out with intensity, and we played that way
for 90 minutes."
Emory took the lead early in the first half, after Joey
Howie turned on a misplayed ball by a Bears defender
inside his own box during the 10th minute of play. The goal
was the senior midfielder's fourth of the season, and his second
game-winning score of the year.
Following the opening goal, both teams went scoreless over a
stretch of 74 minutes, in large part due to the efforts of Emory
goalkeeper Keith Meehan. With Emory leading by a
goal in the 76th minute, the senior deflected a shot taken on a
free kick late in the game, corralling the ball a few seconds later
to preserve the advantage. Meehan recorded his third shutout
of the season, saving five shots on goal and improving to 11-1-0 on
the year.
"Our defenders were determined not to lose an air-ball, and they
did a great job," said Travis. "And, Keith cleaned up a lot
of things for us."
Emory added two late goals to secure the victory, one from
Jack Eisen-Markowtz, and the other from
Patrick McFarland. McFarland finished the
game with a goal and an assist, and now has 22 points on the
season.
Emory's leading scorer in 2007, Patrick Carver,
registered his fourth and fifth assists of the season in the game,
giving him 29 points on the campaign.
The Eagles continued their strong team play, recording their
seventh-team shutout of the year. Emory has outscored their
opponents 42-7 this season, including a 29-3 advantage over its
last six Division III opponents.

face on the road next Sunday.

get on track and mount a comeback.
Despite the loss, Emory played well during the game. The
Eagles outshot Clayton State 15 to 10, including a six to three

EAGLES CLINCH EMORY UNIVERSITY TOURNAMENT WITH WIN OVER
HUSSON
(Sept. 1) Emory University recorded its second-consecutive shutout
of the year, defeating Husson College (Maine) 4-0 at the Woodruff
P.E. Center. The win gives the Eagles the title at the Emory
University Tournament for the second-straight year.
The Eagles got off to a quick start in the game, as junior defender
Andre Jakubowski recorded his first-career goal, a
header off a corner kick from Jack
Eisen-Markowitz. Junior forward Patrick
McFarland added a goal in the first half as well, his
second in as many games this season.
The Eagles continued their dominance in the second half, doubling
their lead with two Patrick Carver goals, his
second and third of the season.
Emory received another solid performance from senior goalkeeper
Keith Meehan, who made one save in 67 minutes of
play. Freshman Greg Irons made his Emory

"THE PATRICKS" SHINE IN A 2-0 EMORY WIN OVER
MISSISSIPPI
(Aug. 31) Emory University's Patrick Carver and
Patrick McFarland each recorded a goal, and
goalkeeper Keith Meehan converted six saves en
route to a 2-0 Emory victory over Mississippi College in the team's
season-opening match.
"It was a great win for the team, because Mississippi College is a
quality team," said Emory Head Coach Sonny Travis.
Carver opened his junior season with the Eagles by scoring an
unassisted goal on a rebounded ball off the crossbar just 17
minutes into the Eagles season. Carver, who has led the
Eagles in goals each of the past two seasons, took four shots
during the game, two of which were on goal.
The goal was all that senior goalkeeper Keith
Meehan needed, as he recorded a shutout in the season
opener for the second-consecutive year. The shutout was the
11th of Meehan's career, moving him into a tie for fifth place with
former Eagle Rohit Agarwal, for career shutouts as
an Eagle.
McFarland gave the Eagles some breathing room in the second half,
scoring in the 67th minute off of a corner kick from Joey
Howie, and a header from Marc Del
Marmol.
"I think the Patricks are going to score a lot of goals this year,"
said Travis of his two junior forwards.
Emory improved to 1-0-0 this season, and 17-7-1 in season-opening
games. The Eagles win comes in the middle of their Emory

NEW BEGINNINGS AND FAMILIAR FACES FOR EMORY MEN'S SOCCER
IN 2007
(Aug. 20) The Emory University Men's Soccer Team had high
hopes for the 2006 season after opening the year with a 9-0
record. However, a 2-5 record in UAA play to end the season
prevented the Eagles from advancing to the NCAA tournament.
Now, after the departure of 19-year head coach Mike Rubesch (who
left to pursue a career with the AJAX Team of the South African
Premier Soccer League), the Eagles will turn to the experience of
new Head Coach Sonny Travis, who comes to Emory
after 18-years at Virginia Wesleyan College.
"Emory stands for excellence. I think the UAA is a great
conference, and there is a lot of history of success in soccer at
Emory, and the school is a great institution," said Travis.
Travis begins the season with 294 victories over his coaching
career, just six shy of becoming the 28th Division III head soccer
coach to join the 300-win club. However, his goals for Emory
this season are well-beyond personal milestones.
"I'm going to expect the same thing from this team that I have
expected from every team I have ever coached - to win the
conference and to go to the National Tournament."
The Eagles will be returning a strong core of players on the
offensive side of the ball, including leading scorers
Patrick Carver and Patrick
McFarland. After being named the UAA Rookie of the
Year and setting Emory freshman records in goals scored (15) and
points (34), Carver saw a slight drop in his points in his
sophomore season (six goals and nine assists for 21 points), as he
moved from forward to midfield. McFarland, also a junior,
finished second on the team in 2006 with five goals and five
assists for 15 points.
"The two Patrick's are going to be a powerful duo on the offensive
attack," said Assistant Coach Jacques
Edeline.
On the defensive side, goalkeeper Keith Meehan will return for his senior season, following a solid 2006 season in the net. Meehan played all but five minutes in goal for the Eagles last season, compiling a 0.93 goals against average and six shutouts.
In the backfield, the Eagles will look to recover from the loss of three key graduating seniors from last year's team, including two-time All-South Region defender Matthew Kaufman. The lone returning defensive starter will be junior Jordan Edelman, who started each of Emory's 17 games last year. Also figuring to be a factor in the Eagles' backfield is sophomore Andre Jakubowski, who played in 14 games during his inaugural season with Emory last year.
"We graduated some great defensive players, but there are definitely some players with experience who will be returning, particularly Jordan and Andre," said Edeline.
Emory will open its 2007 regular season with the annual Emory University Tournament at the Woodruff Physical Education Center on August 31st and September 1st. Later in the season, the Eagles will be facing three teams ranked in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/ Adidas preseason poll, each in the UAA. New York University, which will travel to Emory on October 28th, will open the season ranked fourth in the Nation, the 13th-ranked Case Western Reserve University (Ohio) will host the Eagles on October 12th, and Washington University (Mo.), ranked 23rd, will be in Atlanta to face Emory on October 7th.
EMORY MEN'S SOCCER NAMES JACQUES EDELINE ASSISTANT
COACH
(Aug. 15) Emory University men's soccer coach Sonny Travis has
announced the appointment of Jacques Edeline as assistant
coach.
Edeline is a familiar face to the Emory program, having played for
the Eagles during the 2002-2005 seasons. During his career,
he appeared in 73 games, 60 as a starter, and totaled 15 goals and
14 assists for 44 points. He served as captain of the 2005
squad and was a member of two teams that made appearances in the
NCAA Tournament. Edeline distinguished himself in the
classroom as well, earning All-University Athletic Association
academic honors all four years of his collegiate career.
Edeline has seven years of coaching and instructional experience
working at the camp and club levels and has served as community
coach for the boy's varsity team at Decatur High School. He
recently obtained his USSF "C" License.
"I feel fortunate to have Jacques as an assistant coach," Travis said. "I have had the opportunity to work with him as various camps and was impressed with him. In addition, the fact that he was a former captain at Emory shows his leadership potential."
Edeline, a native of Avondale Estates, attended St. Pius High
School where he was a member of state championships teams in 1999
and 2001. He earned his bachelor's degree from Emory in
history.
The Emory men's soccer team will host Mercer in an exhibition
contest on Wednesday, Aug. 22, starting at 7:00 p.m.

Travis takes over for Mike Rubesch who resigned as head coach in
June to take a position with a professional team in South
Africa.

home match against Mississippi College at 7:30 p.m.
EMORY MEN'S SOCCER COACH MIKE RUBESCH RESIGNS - WILL TAKE POST WITH SOUTH AFRICAN PROFESSIONAL TEAM
(June 23) Mike Rubesch, who has been affiliated with the Emory
University men's soccer program for 23 years, the last 19 as head
coach, has announced his resignation. Rubesch will take a
position with the AJAX (pronounced I-AX) Team of the Premier Soccer
League (PSL) located in Capetown, South Africa.
During his distinguished tenure at Emory, Rubesch compiled an
overall record of 236-99-22, good for a 69.1 winning
percentage. Rubesch posted 15 campaigns of 10 or more wins
including an 11-6 ledger during the 2006 campaign. He guided
the Eagles to eight NCAA Tournament appearances and five
first-place finishes in the University Athletic Association
(UAA).
Rubesch joined the Emory soccer program in 1984 and served as an
assistant under Tom Johnson through 1987 before assuming the head
coaching duties for the 1988 season. He also directed Emory

(1986-87). Prior to his arrival at Emory, he coached boys and girls
soccer at Atlanta's St. Pius High School from 1981-84.
"I have had an incredible 23 years at Emory and truly appreciative
of the opportunities that have come my way over that time," Rubesch
said. "I feel lucky to have experienced working for the best
school and athletic department in the country. I have always
firmly believed that Emory soccer is all about the players and
family and I am blessed to have been a part of so many wonderful
young men's lives here.
"I'm indebted to Tom Johnson for providing me the opportunity to
come to Emory years ago," Rubesch continued. "A joy for me
was to coach Tom's son, David, who served as a captain while he was
here. The memories of having played in the most prestigious
and competitive Division III conference, and the friendships that
developed with those coaches will stay with me forever. Along those
lines, I will always value and treasure the relationships with the
coaches, staff and administrators who I had the pleasure of working
with at Emory."
Rubesch was honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of
America as the regional "Coach of the Year" in 1988, 1989 and 1991.
