Hannigan became the first
Emory freshman to start a game in goal since Derek Marinatos did so
as a red shirt in 1995, and the first true freshman to start in
goal since Briam Smith in 1991. Taking over the starting
goalkeeper duties seven games into the campaign and holding it the
rest of the way, Hannigan finished the year with a 9-4-1 overall
record, recording a 1.29 goals-against average and a .620 save
percentage. Two of his three shutouts in 2012 came in key
conference games at the end of the season, with a pair of 1-0 wins
over New York University and Carnegie Mellon University in
back-to-back weeks. Hannigan recorded a career-best seven
saves in his starting debut at Berry College on September 15th, and
finished the year with 31 saves.
