Emory Men's Soccer Falls 1-0 at Rochester

The Emory University Men's Soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat to the University of Rochester on Saturday night at Edwin Fauver Stadium in Rochester, NY in the final game of the 2016 regular season.

An own goal was the lone difference in the contest as a throw in by Rochester's Aidan Miller in the 29th minute went through the hands of junior Jake Deuel and across the goal line to give the Yellowjackets (9-4-3, 2-3-2 UAA) a 1-0 advantage.

Emory (10-5-1, 3-3-1 UAA) looked like it had found the equalizer in the 35th minute as junior Cody Gardiner had a spectacular bicycle kick that went in but the goal was disallowed due to an offsides call.

Later in the first half at the 44:43 mark, senior Scott Haley shot a bullet from long distance but was denied on a diving save by Rochester's Patrick Conway.

In the 78th minute, junior Christian Meyer tried a backheader inside the box but Conway came up with the stop again, pushing Meyer's attempt over the crossbar. Meyer had one final opportunity for the Eagles with 10 seconds remaining, firing a shot from just outside the 18 but Conway made an unbelievable diving save before recovering and stopping the rebound volley attempt by Georges Daoud to preserve the 1-0 win for the Yellowjackets.

The Eagles will now await word on a possible NCAA tournament berth when the bracket is announced on Monday afternoon. Fans can watch the selection show on NCAA.com beginning at 1:00 pm.
