Emory University Men's Soccer junior Jason McCartney was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Friday afternoon.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Voting for this award is conducted by the Academic All-America Committee and CoSIDA Board of Directors.

Emory athletes have now claimed 174 Academic All-American honors in the program's history. The honor marks the first time in McCartney's career that he has been named an Academic All-American, having been named Academic All-District earlier this season. He is just the 10th player in Men's Soccer history to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American.

The Raleigh, NC native is coming off a career year, being named to his second consecutive All-University Athletic Association team, earning First Team honors. McCartney appeared in the starting lineup in all 16 contests, finishing with seven goals and seven assists for 21 points, adding 41 shots and 24 shots on goal in addition to three game-winning goals, figures all marking team-highs and career-bests. So far in his three-year career, McCartney has played in 51 games, making 48 starts, racking up 10 goals and 10 assists for 30 points.

Off the field, McCartney carries a 3.91 grade-point average double majoring in Biology and Russian and has made the Dean's List every semester.
