McCartney's Late Goal Lifts Emory Men's Soccer to Third Consecutive Win

McCartney's Late Goal Lifts Emory Men's Soccer to Third Consecutive Win

Senior Jason McCartney's goal in the 81st minute proved to be the difference maker Wednesday night as the Emory University Men's Soccer team won its third straight game, defeating Maryville College, 1-0, in Maryville, TN.

McCartney spun around a defender after receiving a pass from junior Moustafa Khattab in the center of the box and proceeded to slot the game-winning goal into the lower left corner to give Emory the victory. The goal marked McCartney's fourth tally of the season and first game-winner of the year.

The Eagles outshot their opponent for the fourth consecutive match and sixth time in seven games in 2017, finishing with a 15-9 margin over the previously unbeaten Scots. Senior Christian Meyer paced the Emory offense with four total shots including three on target.

Freshman Cole Gallagher collected his third clean sheet as he improved to 4-3 between the posts. Gallagher made a career-high four saves to preserve the one-goal victory.

Emory returns home Saturday afternoon with a non-conference matchup against Carthage College. Play from the Woodruff PE Center is set to begin at 1:00 PM.
