#15 Brandeis Snaps Emory Men's Soccer Win-Streak in Double OT

The Emory University Men's Soccer team suffered a hard-luck defeat Sunday afternoon, as 15th-ranked Brandeis University snapped the Eagles' eight-game winning streak in double overtime by a score of 1-0.

With the loss, the Eagles dropped to a four-way tie for first place in the University Athletic Association standings with the Judges, Chicago and Rochester as all four schools stand at 3-1 with three conference games remaining.

Brandeis' Patrick Flahive scored the game-winner with just 2:26 minutes remaining in the second overtime period. Josh Ocel started the play with a short throw-in to Dylan Hennessy. Hennessy served the ball into the box, and Flahive emerged from a pack to beat freshman Cole Gallagher to the ball, heading it into the right netting.

The game was evenly played throughout, with Brandeis owning a slim 20-19 edge in shots. Corner kicks were even at six-all, and Brandeis had 14 fouls to nine for the Eagles.

After being limited to four shots in the first half, Emory mounted pressure early and often after halftime, posting 15 shots with eight being on target. The Eagles had a flurry of opportunities early in the second half but were held out of the scoring column by several great saves by Brandeis' Ben Woodhouse.

The Eagles looked to have scored the go-ahead marker with a header over a leaping Woodhouse in the 65th minute but an offsides call disallowed the goal.

Senior Adam Ferguson had one of Emory's best chances to win it in overtime as he blasted a strike from 35 yards out, coming within inches of the right post.

Emory returns to action this Wednesday night as it travels to crosstown rival Oglethorpe University for a non-conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
