Men's Soccer Garners Four All-UAA Selections; McCartney, Khattab on First Team

The Emory University Men's Soccer team saw four players selected to the All-University Athletic Association Team announced on Thursday afternoon. The All-Association team is voted on by the league's eight coaches.

Senior Jason McCartney and junior Moustafa Khattab were named to the All-UAA First Team with juniors Aidan Datené and Tyler Santee garnering Second Team acclaim. This marks McCartney's third All-UAA selection and second straight appearance on the First Team. For Khattab, it is his second All-UAA honor after being named to the Second Team as a sophomore. And with their respective selections, Datené and Santee earn their first career All-Association postseason award.

McCartney followed his superb junior campaign with a tremendous senior season, recording career-highs in goals (11), points (25) and multi-goal games (4). McCartney finished the regular season ranked third among UAA leaders in goals and points, trailing only Chicago's Max Lopez and Rochester's Geoffrey Rouin. Earlier this season, McCartney was named to his second Sonny Carter Invitational All-Tournament Team, was honored as the UAA Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career and on Thursday garnered his second straight CoSIDA Academic All-District Team selection.

Khattab has been phenomenal as a junior, collecting seven goals and four assists for 18 points, all figures representing career-highs, and is one of two Eagles to start all 18 games. Four of Khattab's seven markers acted as game-winners including his strike in Emory's 3-0 victory at top-ranked Chicago on October 7th. Khattab is currently riding a three-game scoring streak as he found the back of the net in the final three games of the regular season, helping the Eagles to a 1-1-1 mark during the stretch.

Datené and Santee have been key figures of the Emory defense in 2017 with Santee starting all 18 contests and Datené earning 16 starting nods. The pair have helped the Eagles record eight shutouts on the year to go along with a 0.97 goals-against average, while limiting opposing teams to 10.2 shots per game and 3.7 shots on goal per match. On the offensive end, Datené has totaled a career-best eight points on three goals and two assists with Santee checking in with three goals and one assist for seven points.

The Eagles continue their season this Saturday with a NCAA First Round matchup against Dickinson College on the campus of Lynchburg, VA. Game time is set for approximately 4:30 PM.
