Junior Jun Tsuru is putting together a career season so far in 2018, posting personal-bests across the board and is currently riding a team-best nine-game point streak, two shy of Matthew Levine's program record of 11 games set during the 2003 season. Tsuru leads the team with 17 points and ranks fifth in Division III with seven assists. Senior Moustafa Khattab has record a point in all but two games so far this season, compiling five goals and six assists for 16 points. The Eagles rank among the national leaders in assists per game (2.56, 22nd), points per game (8.11, 27th), scoring offense (2.78, 38th) and goals against average (0.777, 69th).

The University of Chicago, coming off a final four appearance in 2017, is off to another strong start in 2018, going 10-0-1 through their first 11 games and have vaulted to No. 2 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and No. 1 in the D3Soccer.com rankings. The Maroons are led by the two-headed offensive attack of reigning All-Americans Matthew Koh and Max Lopez. The duo has combined for 19 of the team's 31 goals and has combined for 50 points. Koh leads the UAA in all three major offensive categories while the reigning conference MVP Lopez has nine goals and five assists for 23 points. Chicago once again boasts a solid defensive unit, allowing just seven goals in 11 games. Aaron Katsimpalis has flourished as the new starting GK, making 42 saves and recording a 0.65 GAA to go along with a 10-0-1 record. UC is under the leadership of Mike Babst, who is in the middle of his sixth season as head coach, going 79-20-12 overall.

Emory leads the all-time series 21-8-3 including the Eagles' 3-0 win at UC during the regular season last year. The two programs also tied during the national quarterfinals a year ago with the Maroons advancing 5-3 on penalty kicks.
