Emory Men's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw with Maryville

The Emory University Men's Soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Maryville College Tuesday night at the Woodruff PE Center. The tie moved the Eagles overall mark to 8-2-1 while the Scots went to 6-3-1.

The Eagles opened the match with one of the fastest goals recorded in program history as sophomore Patrick McCann put the home team in front just 75 seconds into the contest, the ninth quickest goal in team history. McCann took advantage of a bad backwards deep in the Maryville zone and fired a shot to the upper corner from 20 yards out.

Junior Trevor Stormes, making his first start of the season, came up with a big time save to keep the Eagles in front in the 61st minute. MC's Bret Thomas had a 1-on-1 opportunity with Stormes from just outside the six on the right side but the third-year keeper made a great kick save to keep the game 1-0.

The Scots were able to tie the score in the 79th minute however as Milan Card fired home a shot to the far corner from 30 yards out.

In the first overtime period, freshman Charlie Scruton shot a blister on net from 10 yards out following a great give-and-go sequence by senior Tyler Walsh and junior Jun Tsuru but was denied by the Scots' keeper.

Tsuru had the lone opportunity for both teams in the second overtime as he blasted a shot from straight on and 25 yards out but MC's Ryan Jorgensen made the two-handed stop as the game remained tied at 1-1. In the final two minutes, Emory had a pair of close chances out in front of the goal, but found nobody home on the centering passes.

For the game, Emory held the advantage in shots 22-12 and shots on goal 6-3. Stormes finished with two saves on the night while Jorgensen made four saves for the visitors.

The Eagles travel north this weekend for a pair of crucial UAA contests. First, Emory will face NYU Friday night at 6:00 PM before taking on Brandeis Sunday morning at 11:00 AM.
