Emory Men's Soccer Halts Skid with 3-1 Win at Berry College

Second half goals by seniors Michael Stier and Moustafa Khattab propelled the Emory University Men's Soccer team to a 3-1 victory at Berry College Sunday afternoon in Rome, GA, snapping the team's six-game winless streak.

Stier and Khattab both found the back of the net within a 3:36 minute stretch midway through the second half, breaking a 1-1 tie and lifting the Eagles to the win. In the 66th minute, Stier collected the loose ball following a failed bicycle kick attempt and scored with the defense out of position to put the visitors in front. Khattab tacked onto the lead moments later, beating the Vikings' keeper on a one-on-one opportunity for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Before the Emory seniors gave the Eagles the lead, fellow senior Aidan Datené was the first to crack the scoring column as he began the scoring in the 22nd minute. Khattab sent a pass across the box, finding Datené on the left side where he slotted home a chip shot past the keeper.

Berry evened the score at one just before halftime as Mason Hemstreet sent a header into the upper left corner following a Henry Arato corner kick.

The shot on goal was one of a few chances the Vikings had on the afternoon as the Eagles held Berry to three shots on net and just nine shots total, winning the shots battle 13-9 and 7-3 in SOGs.

With the non-conference schedule concluded, the Eagles turn their attention to three UAA foes to close out the regular season, beginning first with Carnegie Mellon University on Friday, October 26th. Action from the WoodPEC is set to start at 5:00 PM.
