William Jones Collects UAA Men's Soccer Weekly Award

Emory University senior William Jones, a defensive midfielder on the men's soccer, was recognized by the University Athletic Association late Monday afternoon by being named the conference's men's soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week. It is Jones' first weekly honor of his career.

Jones anchored an Emory defense to back-to-back shutouts this past week as the Eagles topped Covenant, 1-0, Tuesday night before the team collected their first UAA win Saturday against WashU. Jones played all 180 minutes in the two wins and helped the Emory defense limit the Scots and Bears to a combined seven shots on goal including just one in the 1-0 victory over WashU.

For the season, Jones is one of three Eagles to start in all 12 games and ranks second on the team in minutes played at 954. His lone goal of the season acted as the game-winner in a road win over Sewanee on September 25th.

Jones and the Eagles (7-4-1, 1-1 UAA) return to the field this weekend with road tilts against UAA foes Case Western Reserve (5-4-3, 0-1-1 UAA) on Friday and Carnegie Mellon University (4-6-1, 0-2 UAA) on Sunday.
