Berman's Last-Second Heroics Propels Men's Soccer Past Lynchburg

Senior Josh Berman's goal with 14.5 seconds remaining in regulation helped the Emory University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the University of Lynchburg Saturday night at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, GA.

Senior Ethan Cohen found a streaking Berman on the left side with a pass through traffic, setting up Berman for the winning strike past the diving Lynchburg keeper. The goal was Berman's first of the campaign.

Emory now improves to 2-1-2 with the win with the Hornets falling to 3-2-1 following the last-second defeat.

After a slow start, the Eagles applied the pressure in the second half as the team totaled 16 shots in the period including the final one which was Berman's game-winner. For the game, Emory finished with a 20-11 shot advantage while both teams had seven shots on goal.

Senior Jack Hudson was tremendous in goal for the Eagles as he tallied a season-high seven saves including several highlight reel stops. The clean sheet was the second for Hudson and the Emory defense in 2021 and the first since the season opener against Covenant on September 1.

Emory will look to keep the momentum going next weekend with a pair of neutral matches at the OrthoCarolina Sportsplex in Charlotte, NC. A meeting with Roanoke College will begin the weekend on Saturday with a 2:00 PM opening kickoff.
