In their first championship-style meet of the 2009-10 campaign,
the Eagles' men's and women's swimming and diving teams each
recorded first-place finishes at the Emory Fall Invitational.
Competing against six other local colleges and swim clubs, the
Emory men finished with 376.5 points, eclipsing the second-place
team, Swim Atlanta, by over 100 points. The Emory women
scored 456 points during the meet, finishing 130 points ahead of
the next-closest team.
The women finished the meet with three four-place finishes and 27
NCAA ‘B' cut times.
During the first session of the meet on Saturday afternoon, the
Emory women recorded provisional times and first place finishes in
both the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relays. In
addition, Anne Culpepper and Liz
Horvat each recorded a ‘B' cut time in the 500-yard
freestyle, and Ruth Westby and Claire
Pavlak both had provisional times in the 50-yard
freestyle.
During Saturday's night's second session, four Emory women's
swimmers (Horvat, Kristin Tadano, Theresa
Gallagher and Taryn Lushinsky) all
recorded ‘B' cut times in the 400-yard individual medley,
while Westby, Whitley Taylor, Amy
Minowitz and Culpepper each had a provisional time in the
200-yard freestyle. Rounding out the session, Leslie
Hackler had a ‘B' cut time in the100-yard butterfly,
while April Whitley and Marie Kim
both had ‘B' cut times in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Also, Emory's 200-yard medley relay team recorded a
first-place finish.
In the only event of the Sunday morning session, Horvat and
Minowitz both had provisional times in the 1,650-yard
freestyle. In the meet's final session, Culpepper, Lushinsky
and Taylor all swam ‘B' cuts in the 200-yard backstroke,
Westby swam one in the 100-yard freestyle, and Whitley, Kim and
Katie Mroz finished the meet with provisional
times in the 200-yard breaststroke. Emory's 400-yard
freestyle relay finished first with a provisional time as well.
Emory's men recorded six first place finishes and five ‘B'
cut times during the two days of competition.
For the men's first session, Kevin Yamada finished
first in the 200-yard individual medley, while Emory's 200-yard
freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay each had top-finishes as
well.
In the Saturday night session, Peter O'Brien
finished first in the 400-yard individual medley with a ‘B'
cut time, while John Petroff finished third in the
100-yard butterfly in a provisional time.
The Emory men saw three of their swimmers record ‘B' cut
times on the final day, as O'Brien (200 Breast) and Petroff (200
Fly) each had their second of the meet, while Tom
DiMarco had a provisional time and first-place finish in
the 200-yard butterfly. Emory's 400-yard freestyle relay team
rounded out the meet with a first-place finish in the event.
Emory will have a few weeks off before returning to the pool on
December 3rd for the Miami (Ohio) Invitational, the
squads' final meet of the 2009 calendar year.
