Emory University senior swimmer Andrew Wilson was selected as the University Athletic Association Men's Swimmer of the Week after rewriting the Division III record books this past weekend at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, OH. It is the second time Wilson has earned the honor this season and the 11th time overall in his career.
Wilson broke five NCAA Division III men's swimming records, including three individual marks, over the weekend, leading the Eagles to a second place finish at the meet.
On Thursday, he kicked off the meet by breaking his own school record in the 200 IM that he set at the 2015 NCAA Division III Championships with a time of 1:45.57. It also represented a new Division III mark, topping the previous time of 1:46.00 set by Denison's Jack Lindell.
During the same Thursday finals session, he joined classmate Christian Baker, freshman Sage Ono, and junior Oliver Smith to set a new Division III record in the 400 Medley Relay. The foursome's time of 3:13.03 bested the mark of 3:13.49 set by Williams in 2015.
On Friday, Wilson, Ono, Baker, and Smith set another Division III record, this time in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:26.74. The previous mark was 1:27.54 set by Kenyon at the 2015 NCAA championships.
Later in the evening, Wilson set his second individual Division III record with his 51.14 time in a first place finish in the 100 Breaststroke. Wilson eclipsed his own DIII mark of 51.72 that he set at the 2015 NCAA Championships.
With his new 100 Breast time, Wilson now ranks as the fifth-fastest American ever in the event and the seventh-fastest performer of all-time.
The Bethesda, MD native closed out his impressive Miami Invitational on Saturday night, setting his third Division III individual record and fifth overall over the three days, taking first in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 1:51.15. He broke his previous Division III top mark of 1:52.97 that he set at the 2015 NCAA Championships.
With his new 200 Breast mark, Wilson also climbs the all-time ranks as the seventh-fastest American (and performer) in the history of the event.
Wilson and the Eagles will be back in action on January 7th with a dual meet at Division II Florida Southern.
