Andrew Wilson, Cindy Cheng Sweep UAA Swimmer of the Week Awards

Emory University senior Andrew Wilson and junior Cindy Cheng were named the University Athletic Association Swimmers of the Week for their outstanding performances at the NCAA Division III Championships this past weekend.

Wilson was named the CSCAA Swimmer of the Year after helping the Emory Men's Swimming & Diving program to its first-ever National Championship. Wilson won three individual titles and assisted on a pair of relay championships, setting new Division III records in all five events. Wilson took home gold in the 200 IM (1.44.18), 100 Breaststroke (50.94) and 200 Breaststroke (1:50.80) and swam the breaststroke leg in the 200 Medley (1:26.14) and 400 Medley (3:10.51) relays. Wilson's mark in the 100 Breast was one of the fastest ever recorded in the world as he became just the fifth person ever to record a time under the 51 seconds mark in a 100 SCY Breaststroke event. In the 200 Breast, Wilson's time is tied for the sixth-fastest in the world all-time.

Cheng won a pair of individual national championships, assisted on three relay titles and added another individual All-America finish to help the Emory Women's Swimming & Diving to its eighth consecutive national championship. Cheng took home gold in both the 100 Backstroke (54.41 - school record) and 200 Freestyle (1:46.82 - school record). She was also part of the national championship relay teams in the 200 Medley (1:40.83), 400 Medley (3:39.57 - Division III record) and 800 Freestyle Relay (7:14.98 - Division III record). Cheng rounded out her 2017 NCAA Championships with a third place finish in the 200 Backstroke, touching in a time of 1:58.62.

The UAA Athlete of the Week award is the fifth for Wilson this season and the 14th of his career. Cheng has also garnered five AOWs this season and seven for her career.
