Andrew Wilson Closes Out World University Games with Third Gold Medal

Former Emory University swimmer Andrew Wilson closed out an impressive World University Games showing on Saturday, winning his third gold medal as he was part of the winning United States' 4x100 Medley Relay team.

Wilson, along with Justin Ress (Cary, N.C./NC State), Justin Lynch (Vallejo, Calif./California Aquatics) and Ryan Held (Springfield, Ill./NC State), took home the top honors in the event, clocking in with a time of 3:33.27. Wilson posted blazing speed in the breaststroke leg, turning in a 59.29 split. Russia claimed silver with a time of 3:34.85 with Japan finishing at 3:34.88 for bronze.

Over the course of the week-long competition, Wilson won gold in three events: 100 Breaststroke, 200 Breaststroke, and 4x100 Medley Relay and just missed the medal podium in the 50 Breaststroke, taking fourth overall.

Team USA led all nations with 28 medals in the swimming events, winning 11 gold, nine silver and eight bronze. Full results can be found here.
