Day one of the Miami Invitational kicked off for the Emory University Men's Swimming and Diving program Thursday night with the Eagles totaling a pair of event titles, one NCAA A Cut and six NCAA B Cut times.
Following one day of competition in Oxford, OH, the Eagles are positioned in fourth place with 184 points behind Denison University (369 pts.), Miami (307) and Washington University in St. Louis (280).
Earning event wins for Emory on Thursday were senior Oliver Smith and junior Thomas Gordon. Smith took the 50 Freestyle with the lone mark under 20 seconds, touching at 19.71. During the preliminary session, Smith was .05 seconds off his school record pace, finishing at 19.60. Gordon shaved two seconds off his prelim time to win the 500 Freestyle, posting a NCAA B Cut time of 4:27.78 in the finals.
Junior Trey Kolleck, freshman Sven Mesihovic and senior Henry Copses added individual NCAA qualifying marks on the evening as Kolleck took third in the 50 Free at 20.39 while Mesihovic was sixth in the 200 IM at 1:52.78. During the morning session, Mesihovic was the third fastest, touching at 1:51.24.
Emory's quarter of Smith, seniors Cooper Tollen, John Copses and sophomore Sage Ono rounded out the night in the 400 Medley Relay, finishing third with a NCAA B Cut of 3:17.50.
Day two of the Miami Invitational features the 200 Medley Relay, 800 Freestyle Relay, 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke. Preliminaries begin at 10:00 AM with the finals starting at 6:00 PM. The meet will be broadcasted live with FloSwimming and can viewed here.
