Men's Swimming & Diving Extend UAA Lead with Four Event Titles on Friday

The Emory University Men's Swimming and Diving team captured four event titles on Friday as the Eagles extended their lead with one day of competition remaining.

Heading into Saturday, Emory holds a 147 point advantage over second place NYU which checks in at 1,006. WashU still sits in third at 981.5 with Chicago (772), Carnegie Mellon (613.5), Case Western Reserve (513), Rochester (392) and Brandeis (366) rounding out the team scores.

Junior Thomas Gordon and sophomore Sage Ono led the Eagles in individual events on Friday, collecting titles in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke events. Gordon recorded the first Emory win in the 200 Free since 2011, posting a finals time of 1:39.34 while Ono repeated as the 100 Back champ, winning with a time of 48.41.

Gordon assisted on the Eagles' victory in the 800 Freestyle Relay as he, classmates Alex Kohlman, Matt Rogers and freshman Kellen Stillman won the finals heat with a UAA record mark of 6:40.56. And in the 200 Medley Relay, Ono, seniors Cooper Tollen, Oliver Smith and junior Trey Kolleck registered a time of 1:28.63 in the finals.

Smith added All-UAA honors to round out the top Emory performers on Friday, finishing second overall in the 100 Butterfly at 49.42.

The 31st Annual UAA Championships wrap up on Saturday with the 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, 1,650 Freestyle and the men's 1-meter dive.
