Emory Swimming & Diving Sweep UAA Weekly Awards

The Emory University Swimming and Diving program swept the four University Athletic Association weekly awards after defeating Birmingham-Southern College on Saturday in the season opener.

On the women’s side, sophomores Christy Taylor and Katie Kushner earned the Swimmer and Diver of the Week awards. Taylor secured two solo event wins and assisted on a relay win to earn her first UAA weekly honor. Taylor swept both sprint Freestyles, posting times of 24.74 in the 50 Free and 53.45 in the 100 Free and helped the Eagles to a first place showing in the 200 Medley Relay, swimming the Butterfly leg (1:49.67). Taylor added a second place effort in the 100 Fly, touching at 57.89. Kushner won both diving events on Saturday, scoring 242.18 to win the 1-meter and added a mark of 221.25 to win the 3-meter.

For the men, senior Trey Kolleck and freshman Lucas Bumgarner nabbed their first two weekly awards of their respective careers. Kolleck posted two individual event wins and swam the anchor leg on Emory's two relay victories. Kolleck swept the sprint freestyles, taking first in the 50 Free (21.10) and 100 Free (47.15) and helped the Eagles to wins in the 200 Medley Relay (1:35.71) and 200 Free Relay (1:25.64). Bumgarner turned in a pair of top-two finishes in the diving events, taking first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 322.50 and was second in the 1-meter at 288.00.

The Eagles return to the pool on Saturday with a dual meet against Division II power Queens University of Charlotte at 1:00 PM at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center in Atlanta.
