Andrew Wilson ('17) Primed for US Olympic Team Trials in Omaha

After falling just shy at making the United States Olympic Roster in 2016, Andrew Wilson ('17) gets one more chance to qualify for the Olympic Games as he is scheduled to compete at the U.S. Olympic Trials next week at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, NE from June 13-20. The Olympics will take place in Tokyo, Japan from July 23 to August 8.

Ranked as one of the top breaststrokers in the country, Wilson gets another opportunity to make the US Olympic team roster as he will by vying for qualifying spots in both the 100 LCM and 200 LCM Breaststroke events in Omaha. Back at the 2016 Olympic Trials, Wilson placed fifth in the 100 Breaststroke and fourth in the 200 Breaststroke.

He enters this year's competition with the No. 1 overall seed time in the 100 at 58.93 and owns the second fastest seed time in the 200 at 2:07.77. The Olympic Team Trials serves as the only selection meet for swimmers to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team with the top two fastest swimmers in each event qualifying to swim for Team USA at the Olympics.

Preliminaries and semifinals of the 100 Breaststroke are scheduled for Sunday, June 13 with the finals to take place on Monday, June 14. For the 200 Breaststroke, preliminaries and semifinals sessions will take place on Wednesday, June 16 with the finals to follow Thursday night, June 17. As a member of the U.S. National Team for the past few years, Wilson has shined on the international circuit, winning three gold medals at the 2017 World University Games, a gold medal in the 4x100 medley relay at the 2018 PanPacs Championships and was a silver medalist in the 4x100 medley relay at the 2019 World Championships. He was the fastest U.S. swimmer in the 100 in both 2018 and 2019, and in every year since 2017, has been ranked either first or second in the 200. Since the Rio Olympics in 2016, Wilson is one of only two American men to break 59 seconds in the 100, and one of four to crack 2:08 in the 200.

Wilson enjoyed an illustrious career with the Eagles, leading the men's program to its first-ever national championship in 2017. Over his career, he was a two-time CSCAA National Swimmer of the Year, a 10-time national champion, 17-time All-American, two-time UAA Swimmer of the Year, 15-time UAA Champion, 20-time All-UAA finisher, 14-time UAA Athlete of the Week, three-time CSCAA Scholar All-American, a two-time Academic All-American of the Year and still holds Division III records in five events.
