Emory Men's Tennis To Host Opening Rounds of NCAA D-III Championships

The fourth-ranked Emory University men's tennis team will play host to the first three rounds of the 2013 Division III Championships, this Thursday through Saturday (May 9-11).

After receiving a first-round bye, the Eagles (14-6), who enter this year's tourney as defending national champs, will play the winner of Thursday's first-round contest between No. 21-ranked  Washington and Lee (18-5), champions of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, and No. 23 North Carolina Wesleyan (14-9), who took home the title in the USA South Conference Championships.

Another Friday second-round match will pit No. 15 Whitman (18-6), the Northwest Conference titlist, against No. 17 Texas-Tyler (21-5), an at-large entry following its runner-up effort at the American Southwest Conference Championships.   

The third round will be played on Saturday with the victor of that match advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan.    All times for this weekend's action in Atlanta will be announced on Tuesday (May 7) on www.emoryathletics.com.


This is the 24th-consecutive year the Eagles have earned an NCAA Tournament berth, advancing at least as far as the quarterfinals 21 times in that stretch.  Emory has earned a spot in the national semifinals in 10 of the past 11 seasons has won national crowns in 2003, 2006 and 2012.
