Aman Manji Earns CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-America Honors

Aman Manji, a senior on the Emory University men's tennis team, has been named a Division III Men's At-Large Second Team Academic All-American, as selected by the College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), based on academic and athletic performance during the 2016-17 season.

Manji becomes the 10th different player in program history to be afforded Academic All-America honors and the first since 2011-12 (Chris Goodwin.)  182 Eagles have now garnered Academic All-America status in Emory Athletic history, including nine during the 2016-17 academic year.

Manji enjoyed a banner final campaign in helping lead the Eagles to the Division III national crown. Manji finished with an overall singles ledger of 28-7 with his victory total tying the sixth-highest seasonal mark in school history.  The Sammamish, Wash., native held down the No. 1 singles spot and compiled a 19-5 slate during the spring portion of the schedule.  He played his way to All-America acclaim after winning the ITA South Regional title in the fall and followed that performance with a championship performance in the Division III portion of the ITA Oracle Cup (formerly the Small College Championships).  Manji concluded the season as the No. 3-ranked singles player in Division III and was No. 1 in the Atlantic South Region.  A three-time selection to the All-UAA First Team, he was recently chosen by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as the Division III recipient of the Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award.  Manji graduated in May with a 3.53 GPA as a biology major.

Emory student-athletes were well represented on the At-Large Academic All-America Teams, with a total of five Eagles earning the honor.  On the women's side, former swimming and diving standouts Marissa Bergh and Marcela Sanchez-Aizcorbe were first-team choices, while Andrew Wilson (first team) and Hayes Burdette-Sapp (second team) joined Manji as men's honorees.

Sports represented on the 'At-Large' team include women's bowling, women's crew, men's and women's fencing, women's field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's rifle, men's and women's skiing, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis, men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo, men's wrestling and women's beach volleyball.
