Generals Storm Past Saints, 5-0, in NCAA DIII Men's Tennis Opening Round

The Washington and Lee University Generals stormed past the Thomas More College Saints, 5-0, in the opening round of NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championship. The first round match was played at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.

The Generals breezed through doubles action to open with a commanding 3-0 lead. Mitchell Thomas and Justin Gillette posted an 8-1 win at third doubles before Harry Shepard and Michael Lukas claimed an 8-2 win at first doubles. Noah Tapp and Tyebo Loan rounded doubles play with an 8-4 decision at second doubles.

Shepard and Thomas paved the way for W&L in singles as the Generals’ top two singles players notched wins to seal the match. Shepard was the first to finish, posting a 6-0, 6-3 win on court one before Thomas followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory on court two.

At the conclusion of the match, the Generals had leads in all four remaining matches.

Washington & Lee now advances to face the host Emory University in the second round, beginning at 10:00 AM in Atlanta.
