The Emory men's tennis team opened the outdoor portion of its schedule on a successful note Saturday afternoon, defeating North Carolina Wesleyan in a match played at the Woodruff PE Center. The No. 1-ranked Eagles raised their dual mark to 6-1 following an 8-1 decision over the 24th-ranked Battling Bishops who slipped to 3-2.
The Eagles took early control of the contest by sweeping all three doubles matches, including an 8-5 decision by senior Max Renke and junior Adrien Bouchet at the No. 2 spot, their fifth win in six outings this spring. At first doubles, senior Scott Rubinstein and junior James Spaulding saw their season slate improve to 11-4 after an 8-3 triumph, while the No. 3 tandem of junior Jonathan Jemison and freshman Hayden Cassone rolled to an 8-4 triumph.
Emory kept the momentum going in singles, winning five of the six encounters, highlighted by Jemison coming away with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5, verdict over Sebastian Sikh at No. 1 and senior Alec Josepher battling to a 6-2, 5-7, 10-4 victory over Ioannis Brokkakis at second. Other Emory singles winners included Cassone at No. 3, senior Andrew Harrington and No. 4 and Spaulding at No. 6.
Emory returns to action on Friday (Mar. 9) when it hosts Millsaps in a 2:00 pm match.
