Emory Men's Tennis Defeated By Azusa Pacific

The Emory men's tennis team began its spring-break California swing with a Wednesday afternoon setback against Azusa Pacific University.  The Cougars, the No. 6-ranked team in the NCAA Division II ranks, boosted their record to 14-0 following a 6-3 verdict over the Eagles who slipped to 7-2.

Heading into the match, Azusa Pacific had dropped just four matches over its last five contests, and jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Emory after winning at Nos. 2 & 1 doubles. The Eagles cut their deficit in half at third doubles when junior Jonathan Jemison and freshman Hayden Cassone topped Jesse Haas and Ryan Nuno for their seventh win in eight outings.

The Cougars sealed the outcome early in singles after capturing the first three outcomes, with Oliver Frank, the No. 2-ranked Division II player posting a 6-3, 6-4 win over Jemsion at the No. 1 spot, providing the Cougars with the fifth point of the match. Senior Andrew Harrington saw his singles ledger improve to 6-1 on the spring after registering a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Nuno at No. 5, while junior Adrien Bouchet's 7-6, 5-7, 10-7, decision at four singles accounted for Emory's other point as well as the final match of the day.

Emory returns to the courts on Thursday (Mar. 15) when it plays Wesleyan (CT) in a 5:30 pm (EDT) start.
