Emory Men's Tennis Defeats Sewanee

Playing its first match in two weeks, the Emory men's tennis team registered a Sunday afternoon win over Sewanee at the Woodruff PE Center Indoor Courts.  The No. 1-ranked Eagles won for the fifth straight time and boosted their season record to 12-2 following an 8-1 decision over the No. 20 Tigers who slipped to 18-5.

Sewanee captured the first point of the afternoon with a win at No. 2 doubles, but it was all Emory after that as the Eagles won for the eighth time in nine home outings.  The No. 1 team of senior Scott Rubinstein and James Spaulding were victorious for the fifth straight time with their 8-3 decision over Jack Gray and Hayden Loeb tying the match while boosting their season ledger to 16-6.  At third doubles, junior Jonathan Jemison and freshman Hayden Cassone came away with an 8-3 outcome against Jack Metzger and Alejandro Becker, raising their record to 16-2.

For the fourth straight contest, Emory won all six singles matches in straight sets. Jemison, the No. 2-ranked player in the Atlantic South Region, rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over No. 3-ranked Gray at the No. 1 position, while Cassone was successful for the 19th time in 22 decisions this year following a 6-1, 6-3, victory vs. Andres Carro at No. 2. The No. 3 singles encounter saw Eagle senior Alec Josepher notch his fifth straight win with a 6-4, 6-1, decision against Ryan Olps.  At four singles, junior Adrien Bouchet emerged with a 6-2, 6-2, decision against Jordan Brewer, while senior Andrew Harrington (#5) and Spaulding (#6) accounted for the other points.  Harrington owns a team-high 11-match win streak while Spaulding has five straight victories to his credit

Emory plays its final regular-season home match on Monday (Apr. 16), when it entertains Washington and Lee University in a 2:00 pm start.
