Emory Men's Tennis Open NCAA Tournament with 5-1 win over Washington & Lee

The Emory University Men's Tennis team began its national title defense on Saturday afternoon, defeating Washington & Lee University, 5-1, in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships.

The Eagles began the match taking the first two doubles matches. Juniors Jonathan Jemison and Adrien Bouchet opened the match with an 8-2 victory at second doubles before senior Andrew Harrington and freshman Hayden Cassone posted an 8-4 triumph on court three. The Generals cut the deficit to one as Harry Shepard and Michael Lukas pulled out the 8-6 win over James Spaulding and Scott Rubinstein at first doubles.

In singles play, it was all Emory as the Eagles pulled ahead to advance to the next round. Harrington made it 3-1 with his 6-1, 6-2 victory on court five before Cassone and Bouchet sealed the match with wins mere moments apart. Cassone claimed the 6-1, 6-2 triumph on court two while Bouchet notched match point on court four with his 6-0, 6-1 win.

Emory, now 17-4 on the year, will face the winner of North Carolina Wesleyan or Sewanee in the regional championship on Sunday beginning at 12:00 PM at the Woodruff PE Center.
