The Emory University men's tennis program opens the 2018-19 campaign this weekend when it travels to Rome, Georgia, to compete in the ITA South Region Championships.  Action begins on Friday (Sept. 21) and runs through Sunday.  The event will be held at the Rome Tennis Center with Berry College serving as the host.

The event will feature top players from Division III schools in the region. The singles and doubles champions from this weekend's tournament advance to the Oct. 11-14 ITA Cup (formerly the Small College Championships) which will be held at the Rome Tennis Center.

Emory has eight players represented in the Main Singles Draw, with senior Jonathan Jemison (Marietta, GA) slotted as the No. 1 seed.  Jemison captured the singles title last year, defeating teammate Rex Serituk, 6-4, 6-2, in the finals. Jemison's performance at the ITA Regionals enabled him to claim All-America honors and helped him compile an overall record of 19-12. Jemison ended the 2017-18 campaign as the No. 11-ranked singles player in D-III.
Sophomore Hayden Cassone (S. Salem, NY) enters the Regionals as the No. 2 seed in singles, and looks to build upon a successful first season that saw him earn ITA South Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year accolades after playing his way to All-America honors and posting a final ledger of 26-7.  Other returning veterans who will be in the Main Draw include seniors Adrien Bouchet (Oakton, VA), the No. 7 seed and James Spaulding (Winnetka, IL), the No. 16 seed.  A mainstay in the lineup throughout his Emory tenure, Bouchet registered a 14-6 mark last year and enters the upcoming season with 56 career singles wins.  Spaulding, a three-time All-American in doubles, totaled 11 singles victories a year ago.  In addition, Serituk, now a junior, starts the weekend as the No. 8 seed in the singles draw.

Emory will see three newcomers make their debuts in the Main Singles competition; freshmen Antonio Mora (Miami, FL) and Andrew Esses (Houston, TX), along with sophomore Sahil Raina (Alpharetta, GA).

Emory will be looking to continue its success in singles as it has claimed 11 of the past 12 champions.

The Eagles will have three entries in B singles action - senior George Congdon (Darien, CT), sophomore Alec Rabinowitz (Marina del Ray, CA) and freshman Connor Genschaw (Grand Rapids, MI).

In doubles, Emory will field five teams with four in the Main Draw – Jemison/Bouchet, Spaulding/Cassone, Esses/Mora and Serituk/Rabinowitz.  In the Doubles B Draw, Genschaw and Raina will represent Emory.

Other schools taking part are: Belhaven, Centre, Covenant College, Piedmont, Sewanee, North Carolina Wesleyan, Birmingham-Southern, Guilford, Methodist, Oglethorpe, Rhodes, Millsaps College, and Berry College.
