Emory Men's Tennis Opens Outdoor Season With Win Over Trinity

The Emory men's tennis team opened the outdoor season on a successful note, registering a Saturday afternoon win over Trinity University (TX) on the Woodruff PE Center Courts.  The No. 4-ranked Eagles raised their record to 5-2 following an 8-1 triumph over the No. 17 Tigers who slipped to 5-6.

The Eagles captured the first two points of the match with victories at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.  At second, senior James Spaulding and Will Wanner raised their season record to 6-1 after dispatching the Tigers' duo of Wilson Hamilton and Christian Settles, 8-4.  Sophomore Hayden Cassone and freshman Antonio Mora boosted their slate to 4-1 at No. 3 doubles with an 8-4 outcome over Tilden Oliver and Jace Akagi Okuma.

Emory captured all six singles encounters in straight sets, with senior Jonathan Jemison seeing his spring ledger improve to 5-1 (12-2 on the year) with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 decision over Jordan Pitts at No. 1.  Cassone battled to a 7-6, 7-5 verdict over Wilson Lambeth at second singles, his fourth win this spring in six decisions, while Adrien Bouchet came away with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Hamilton at No. 3.  Other singles wins came from Mora at No. 4, Sahil Raina at No. 5 and Andrew Esses at No.6.

Emory returns to action on Sunday (Mar. 10) when it hosts Cumberlands (KY) in a 3:00 pm start.
