The Emory men's tennis team closed out a three-match home swing with a Sunday win over Johns Hopkins University. The No. 3-ranked Eagles won for the seventh straight time and upped their dual record to 11-2 following an 8-1 triumph over the No. 25 Blue Jays who slipped to 5-3.
Emory jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after sweeping doubles. At the No. 1 position, seniors Jonathan Jemison and Adrien Bouchet won their fourth straight outing and 18th in 22 decision with an 8-3 verdict over Joe Cartledge and Austin Gu. Senior James Spaulding and sophomore Will Wanner played their way to an 8-4 triumph at No. 2 over Colin Murika and Scott Thygesen, their seventh consecutive win which elevated their season mark to 12-1. At No. 3, sophomore Hayden Cassone and Antonio Mora registered an 8-3 outcome over Vishnu Joshi and Vik Vasan.
The Eagles won five of the singles encounters, all of which came in straight sets. Jemison notched a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Joshi at No. 1, his 18th win in 20 matches this year. It represented Jemison's 91st career singles triumph, tying him with Rafe Mosetick (2012-16) and Travis Saacke (1991-95) for fifth place on the program's all-time ladder. Playing in the No. 2 slot, Bouchet battled to a 7-6, 7-5 decision over Gu for his 15th win in 17 outings. Freshman Adrew Esses saw his season slate improve to 16-4 after turning in a 6-3, 6-0 victory against Aaron Carey at No. 4. Other singles wins were recorded by Mora at No. 3 (6-2, 6-1 vs. Thygesen) and Spaulding at No. 5 (6-1, 6-4 vs. Cody Kim).
Emory returns to action next Sunday (Apr. 7) when it plays at No. 2 Middlebury.
