Emory Men's Tennis Blanks NYU In Quarters of UAA Championships

The Emory men's tennis team made a successful start in the 2019 University Athletic Association on Friday, defeating New York University in the quarterfinals.  The No. 3-ranked Eagles won for the 11th straight time and upped their overall record to 15-2 following a 5-0 verdict over the Violets who fell to 6-7.

Emory took command of the match after sweeping doubles, started by the No. 2 team of senior James Spaulding and sophomore Will Wanner who registered an 8-0 outcome against Lucas Biondi and Benedict Teoh that raised their season record to 14-3.  At No. 1, seniors Jonathan Jemison and Adrien Bouchet saw their record improve to 22-4 with an 8-4 victory while sophomore Hayden Cassone and freshman Antonio Mora closed out with an 8-6 triumph at third.

Senior Adrien Bouchet gave the Eagles a 4-0 advantage following his 6-0, 6-0 outcome over Biondi at No. 3 singles.  Shortly after, Cassone put Emory into Saturday's semifinals with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Stefan Rodic at No. 2 singles, his 12th victory in 19 outings this year.

Emory will square off against either Washington University or Carnegie Mellon on Saturday in a scheduled 12:30 pm start.
