Jonathan Jemison Chosen For UAA Men's Tennis Honor

Emory senior Jonathan Jemison (Marietta, GA) has been recognized by the University Athletic Association as the Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week after capping off his career with a memorable performance at the NCAA D-III Championships.  It is the fifth time during the 2018-19 campaign and 12th occasion in his career that he has received the honor.

Jemison helped the Eagles to the program's fifth national crown, winning two of three doubles matches and one singles outing. In the squad's 5-3 triumph over No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, it was Jemison who registered the national championship point for Emory at No. 1 singles with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 triumph vs. Nikolai Parodi, snapping Parodi's 13-match winning streak.

After the team portion of the competition, Jemison battled his way to the NCAA D-III Singles Championship, winning all five matches including a hard-fought three-set victory over Leo Vithoontien of Carleton College in the finals. Jemison, a four-time competitor in the Singles Championships, closed out his final season with a 26-5 record after recording a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 verdict over Vithoontien.  His performance enabled him to become the fourth player in program history to win the Singles Championship.

Named the ITA National Senior Player of the Year, during the Championships, Jonathan finished off his stint as an Eagle with 99 career singles wins, tying Gavin O'Connell (1997-2001) for the No. 2 spot on the program's all-time list.  In doubles, he logged a school-record 105 victories.
