The Emory University men's tennis team opens the 2019-20 campaign this weekend when it travels to Rome, Georgia, to compete in the ITA South Region Championships.  Action begins on Friday (Sept. 20) and runs through Sunday.  The event will be held at the Rome Tennis Center with Berry College serving as the host.

The event will feature top players from Division III schools in the region. The singles and doubles champions from this weekend's tournament advance to the Oct. 17-20 ITA Cup (formerly the Small College Championships) which will also be held at the Rome Tennis Center.

Emory has nine players represented in the Main Singles Flight A Draw. Among the nine returning veterans from last year's national championship squad competing include sophomores Antonio Mora (Miami, FL), who posted a 20-3 record a year ago, and Andrew Esses (Houston, TX), the owner of a 22-4 effort. Mora was tabbed as the ITA 2018-19 Atlantic South Region Rookie of the Year while Esses closed out his initial season with a flourish, winning his last 13 matches that were played to decision.  The senior duo of Rex Serituk (St. Louis, MO) and Hassan Kenawi (Katy, TX) will be in the Draw as will juniors Will Wanner (Lancaster, PA), Alec Rabinowitz (Marina del Rey, CA), and Sahil Raina (Alpharetta, GA).   Freshmen Mark Sverdlov (Sunny Isles Beach, FL) and William Coupe (Oakland, CA) will make their debuts as part of the 64-player competition.

Emory will be looking to continue its success in singles as it has claimed 12 of the past 13 champions.

The Eagles will have three entries in Flight B singles action - sophomore Pushkar Shinde (Portland, OR) along with freshmen Sam Dean (Charlotte, NC) and Michael Moll (Naples, FL).

In doubles, Emory will field five teams with four in the Main Draw – Esses/Raina, Rabinowitz/Dean, Serituk/Shinde, Kenawi/Sverdlov and Wanner/Mora.

In the Doubles B Draw, Moll and Coupe will represent Emory.

A host of schools will descend upon Rome for the ITAs including Sewanee, Guilford, Emory & Henry, Birmingham Southern, North Carolina Wesleyan, Rhodes, Berry, Centre, Covenant College, Oglethorpe, Piedmont, Millsaps, LaGrange and Belhaven.
