Emory Men's Tennis Splits Weekend Matches

The Emory University men's tennis team split a pair of weekend matches.  The Eagles topped Tennessee Wesleyan, 5-4, at the Woodruff PE Center on Saturday before coming out on the short of a 6-3 decision to Washington University on Sunday in a match that was played in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Against TWU, senior Will Wanner earned a pair of wins, teaming with Ryan Glanville for an 8-5 win over Gabriel Ortiz and German Delcanto at No. 2 doubles and then earning a 7-5, 6-2 verdict at No. 2 singles  over Ortiz.   Classmate Alex Rabinowitz also emerged with a pair of victories, winning at No. 3 doubles with Sahil Raina and then at No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 verdict against Jesus Fernandez.  Emory's other point came at No. 1 doubles with senior Hayden Cassone and Antonio Mora prevailing, 8-5, over Valentin Popescu and Gregorio Magnarelli.

The Eagles got off to a good start against Wash U, winning two of the three doubles points.  Cassone and Mora were impressive at No. 1, topping Scott Altmeyer and Abhi Ramireddy, 8-3, while Andrew Esses and Wanner bettered Daniel Li and Benjamin vander Sman, 8-5, at No. 2.  The Bears came away with five of the six singles points with Rabinowitz winning at No. 6 via retirement.

The match against Wash U closed out the regular-season portion of the schedule.

The Eagles will learn their postseason fate when the NCAA Division III Tournament field is announced on May 10.
