The Emory men's tennis team enjoyed a successful result in its opening match of 2021 NCAA D-III Championships on Monday, registering a quarterfinal-round victory over Brandeis University.  The Eagles raised their overall record to 8-3 following a 5-0 decision over the Judges who closed out their season at 8-2.  The Championships are being held at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with the University of the South serving as the host institution.

Needing a pair of singles wins to seal the outcome, Wanner boosted Emory to a 4-0 advantage after a 6-1, 6-2 verdict over at No. 3. Esses then clinched the outcome with his 6-2, 6-2 win against Tzeng at No. 2.

Emory moves into Tuesday's semifinals where it will match-up against Johns Hopkins (11-0) starting at 2:00 pm.  JHU earned the right to advance after rallying from a 0-4 deficit to top Williams, 5-4, in the quarterfinals.  It represents the 15th time in the past 19 NCAA Tournaments that the Eagles have advanced to the semifinal round.
