Men's Tennis Garners Five All-UAA Selections

The Emory University men's tennis team had five members honored by the University Athletic Association Monday morning as the 2022 All-UAA teams were announced via press release.

Senior Antonio Mora garnered First Team honors in singles with classmate Andrew Esses and sophomore Nolan Shah representing the doubles lineup with First Team kudos. Esses and Shah added conference honors in singles as both highlighted the Eagles on the All-UAA Second Team. The doubles tandem of senior Sahil Raina and sophomore Ryan Glanville rounded out the All-UAA honors as the duo were named Honorable Mention.

Mora makes his third appearance on the All-UAA team in singles and first as a member of the First Team. Playing at the No. 1 spot for the entirety of the season, Mora racked up six wins in 18 matches with three coming during the UAA and NCAA Championships. He went 2-1 as Emory finished in fourth at the UAA tournament, winning in straight sets against WashU in the third-place match. He will represent the Eagles next week at the NCAA Individual Championships as he is one of 32 singles players in the championship draw.

This marks the third consecutive season Esses has earned All-UAA acclaim in both singles and doubles while this is the first career honor, in either singles or doubles, for Shah. The duo synced up for doubles in the early stages of the spring and has carried the team with a 9-4 record and picked up a key 8-1 victory against Mary Washington in the second round of the NCAA Championship. In singles, Esses is third on the team with a 13-5 mark while posting a 12-4 record as the Eagles' No. 2 player. For Shah, he currently leads the team with 20 singles victories, including an impressive 15-3 mark at the No. 3 position and scored two major wins in Emory's come-from-behind victories against UMW and Trinity to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals. They will join Mora at the NCAA Individual Championships next week as one of 16 teams in the doubles draw.

The doubles pairing of Raina and Glanville round out the UAA selections as they both earn their first All-UAA honor after going 8-5 this spring playing at the No. 3 position. They went 2-1 at the UAA Championships with wins coming against Carnegie Mellon and WashU.

Emory is set to take on No. 1 University of Chicago in the NCAA Quarterfinals next Monday, May 23rd at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, FL.
