Athletes of the Week

(May 7) Emory University's Jim LePorte recorded a career-best jump of 6.30 meters in the long jump, while competing at the Duke Asics Twilight meet.  LePorte finished ninth overall in the event, while competing mostly against Division I competitors.  The junior's jump is the best this season by an Emory athlete.


(Apr. 23) Emory's Frederick Linton was the star of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship Meet, finishing first in two individual events and two relays.  Linton became the UAA Champion in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.95 seconds, and the 400-meter dash with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 48.52 seconds.  He also anchored the 4x100-meter relay, helping his team win the event in a time of 42.15 seconds, and later combined taking part in the winning 4x400-meter relay team which set the new UAA record time of 3:17.25.  All together, the junior scored 40 points at the meet for the Eagles, finishing first in each of the four events he ran.  Linton helped the Eagles finish second at the Association's meet.


(Apr. 9) Emory University's Tommy Fyffe recorded the top time for an Eagle this season in the seeded 5,000-meter run, while competing at the Duke Asics Invitational.  The freshman finished the race in a time of 15:13.08, while participating in the 5,000-meter run for the first time in his career.  Fyffe finished 63rd out of over 160 runners, while competing for the most part against athletes from Division I schools at the meet.


(Apr. 2) Emory University's Rob Leventhal finished first out of 33 runners in the 800-meter run at the Emory University Classic.  The senior recorded an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time 1:53.03 in the event, the best time for an Eagle this season.  Leventhal, the University Athletic Association's Most Outstanding Performer during the 2007 Indoor Track Season, helped Emory to a second-place finish at the Emory Classic.


(Mar. 26) Emory University's Frederick Linton recorded two top-two finishes while competing at the Emory University Track and Field Invitational this weekend, helping the Eagles to a first-place finish.  Linton finished first in the 400-meter dash, recording an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 47.80 seconds, the fifth-fastest time in school history.  He also finished second in the 200-meter dash, finishing the race in 21.97 seconds.  The junior then came back to anchor the Eagles' third-place 4x100-meter relay team.  Linton contributed to score 24 of Emory's 122 points, leading the team to the victory.


(Mar. 5) Emory University's Rob Leventhal was the only multiple-event champion at last weekend's 2007 University Athletic Association Championships.  Leventhal recorded a school-record and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:11.66 in the mile run, finishing first overall.  The senior returned later on to record another first-place finish and NCAA provisional qualifying time, running a time of 1:54.86 in the 800-meter run.  He was also part of the first-place Emory 4x400-meter relay team, which recorded a school-record time as well.  Leventhal helped Emory to a second-place finish at the UAA Indoor Championship meet.


(Feb. 26) Emory University's Bryan Forsyth finished first out of nine runners in the 3,000-meter run at the Sewanee Indoor Invitational this weekend.  Forsyth recorded a season-best time of 9:17.37, the fifth fastest time recorded by an Eagle this season in the event.  Forsyth's finished helped Emory, ranked 49th in the nation, to a second-place finish out of 11 teams at the meet.


(Feb. 19) Emory University's Rob Leventhal recorded a NCAA provisional qualifying time and a meet record while competing at two separate track meets last weekend.  At the Hoosier Hills Invitational at Indiana University, Leventhal finished fourth in the 800-meter run, completing the race in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:54.07.  The senior came back the next day to run at the DePauw Indoor Classic, winning the mile run and setting a meet record with a time of 4:17.62.  Both times were the best for Emory this season.  Leventhal's performance at DePauw helped the Eagles finish fifth out of 15 teams.


(Feb. 12) Emory University's Rob Leventhal recorded strong finishes in both the 800-meter and one mile runs, while competing at the Clemson Tiger Indoor Invitational in Clemson, SC.  Competing against mostly NCAA Division I opponents, Leventhal finished first out of 41 runners in the mile run, registering a personal-best time of 4:20.28.  In the 800-meter run, the senior recorded a second-place finish out of 43 competitors, running a time of 1:55.89.  His time in the 800-meter run was less than one second shy of an NCAA provisional qualifying time.


(Feb. 5) Emory University's Frederick Linton recorded two top-five finishes, including a first-place finish, at the Sewanee Tiger Invitational last Saturday.  Competing in the 200-meter dash, Linton finished first and recorded a time of 23.33 seconds on an undersized track.  The junior also took fourth place in the 55-meter dash, finishing with a time of 6.66 seconds.  Linton scored 14 points during the meet, helping the Eagles finish first out of 11 teams at the invitational.


(Jan. 30) Emory University's Frederick Linton recorded career-best times in two events at the Niswonger Track and Field Invitational last weekend.  Linton, a junior, recorded a time of 7.16 seconds in the 60-meter dash, finishing 48th out of 95 runners.  He followed his performance in the 60-meter dash with a time of 22.62 seconds in the 200-meter dash, good for a 40th-place finish out of 123 competitors. 


(Jan. 22) Tyler Faits led Emory University at the Baldwin-Wallace Invitational, recording a first-place finish in the 400 Meter Dash, and a second-place finish in the 200 Meter Dash.  The freshman, competing in his second collegiate meet, recorded a personal-best time of 51.66 seconds in the 400 Meter Dash to lead all competitors.  Faits finished the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 23.08 seconds, second among all runners.
