The 2006-07 season marked a return to success for the Emory
University Men's Indoor Track and Field team. After finishing
towards the bottom of the conference in 2005 and 2006, the Eagles
took second place at the 2007 University Athletic Association (UAA)
Indoor Championships, and were represented at the 2007 NCAA
National Championship Meet.
The second place finish at the annual conference meet marks the
ninth time in school history that Emory has taken one of the
top-two slots at the UAA Indoor Championships. It was also
the best finish by an Emory team since the Eagles won the UAA
Championship during the 2004 season. For the team's vast
improvement, Emory's coaching staff, comprised of head coach
John Curtin and assistant coaches Carl
Leivers, Glenn Arnold, Kenny Cox and Pedro
Vasquez, took home the conference's Coaching Staff of the
Year award.
Emory was led throughout the season by senior Rob
Leventhal, who was named the UAA's Most Outstanding
Performer after becoming the only multiple-event winner at the
meet. Leventhal recorded an indoor school-record time of
4:11.66 in the mile run during the season, qualifying for the NCAA
National Championships. During the season, the senior
recorded the three best times in the mile run in school history,
and two of the school's top-four times in the 800-meter run.
Emory also added a number of new faces to the roster, who ended up
making a positive impact on the team. Freshman Tyler
Faits was named the UAA's Rookie of the Year after taking
first place in the 400-meter dash and claiming second in the
200-meter dash. During the season, Faits recorded two of the
top-six times in school history in the 400-meter dash.
Meanwhile, junior Frederick Linton took
conference-champion honors in the 200-meter dash, finishing first
with time of 22.54 seconds, the third-fastest time in school
history. Freshman Alex Greenhouse finished
Emory's clean-sweep of the UAA 200-meter dash, finishing third in
the event.
