The 2007-08 Indoor Track and Field season was one of broken
records and numerous honors for Emory University, which recorded
one of its most successful indoor campaigns in recent history.
Emory sent four runners, competing in three different events to the
NCAA Division III National Championships. Emory's 4x400-meter
relay team, composed of Alex Greenhouse,
Jason Campbell, Naoki Murai, and
Frederick Linton, finished seventh nationally,
becoming the first relay team in school history to earn all-America
honors. In addition, Linton recorded a seventh-place finish
in the 400-meter dash to earn the first individual indoor
all-America honor for Emory since the 2004 season. Greenhouse
also competed in the 55-meter dash, recording a school-record time
of 6.41 seconds, but finishing just one-hundredth of a second shy
of qualifying for the events finals. The Eagles scored four
points during the meet, finishing in 46th-place.
The National Championship Meet followed an extremely successful
showing at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships,
finishing second out of seven teams. The Eagles were paced by
the UAA's Most Valuable Performer, Frederick Linton, who finished
first and set conference records in the 200-meter dash, and the
400-meter dash. Linton also teamed with Greenhouse, Murai,
and Campbell on the 4x400-meter relay team, which also finished
first in a UAA-record time of 3:20.02. Emory's other
first-place finisher, Steve Dry, claimed the top
spot in the 55-meter dash with a provisional qualifying time of
7.74 seconds.
For the second-consecutive year, the Eagles swept the top-three
spots in the UAA 200-meter dash. Besides Linton's first-place
finish, Greenhouse finished second, and Jim
LePorte third. All together, Emory athletes earned
14 all-UAA honors at the meet.
The Eagles set school records in six different events during the
season. Linton led the way with school-record times in the
60-meter dash (6.94 seconds at the Clemson Opener), the 200-meter
dash (22.03 at the UAA Championships), the 300-meter dash (33.85 at
the Kent State Tune-Up) and the 400-meter dash (48.47 at the UAA
Championships). Alex Greenhouse set the school record in the
55-meter dash, recording a mark of 6.41 seconds at the UAA
Championships and the National Championships. Linton and
Greenhouse, along with Campbell and Murai, also were part of the
Eagles' record-setting 4x400-meter relay team, which recorded a
time of 3:15.89 at the Kent State Tune-Up.
Emory competed in four meets with team scoring last season.
Besides the second-place finish out of seven teams at the UAA
Championships, and the 46th-place finish out of 61 teams at the
NCAA Division III Championships, the Eagles finished second out of
10 teams at the University of the South Invitational, and seventh
out of 14 teams with a limited squad at the Sewanee Indoor
Invitational.
