(May 18) Emory University's Tommy Fyffe set a
school record and a NCAA provisional qualifying time in the
3,000-meter steeplechase, while competing at the Gregory
Invitational. Fyffe finished the event in a time of 9:17.50,
good for a third-place finish and besting his own school
record. The junior provisionally qualified for two events
during the 2009 outdoor track and field season.
(May 18) Emory University's Alex Greenhouse
recorded a NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 400-meter
hurdles, while competing at the Gregory Invitational. The
junior's time of 54.01 seconds was his third-best mark of the
season, and good for a fourth-place finish. Greenhouse was
also part of Emory's 1,600-meter relay team, which finished 13th
with a time of 3:18.84.
(May 11) Emory University's Tommy Fyffe
recorded a NCAA provisional qualifying time, while competing in the
5,000-meter run at the Dr. Keeler Invitational. Fyffe
recorded a time of 14:40.37 in the event, good for a second-place
finish and more than four and a half seconds better than the
provisional qualifying mark. The time was the second-best in
Emory history in the 5,000-meter run, just short of Phil Hagedorn's
(04C) school record of 14:35.24.
(May 11) Emory University's Alex Greenhouse
recorded a NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 400-meter
hurdles at the Orange and Purple Classic. Competing against
mostly Division I opponents, Greenhouse finished second with a
season-best provisional time of 53.51 seconds. The junior
also ran the first leg of Emory's 4x400-meter relay team, which
finished third in a time of 3:20.80, and the anchor leg on Emory
seventh-place 4x100-meter relay team, which recorded a time of
43.34 seconds. Greenhouse has helped the Eagles achieve a
ranking of 23rd in Division III this season.
(May 11) Emory University's Tyler Faits finished
11th in the 200-meter dash, while facinf a field of mostly Division
I competitors at the Orange and Purple Classic. Faits
recorded his season-best time in the event, recording a mark of
22.04 seconds, just .24 seconds short of a provisional qualifying
mark. Faits also ran the anchor leg on Emory's third-place
4x400-meter relay team (3:20.80), and the second leg of the Eagles'
4x100-meter relay (43.34 seconds). Faits has helped the
Eagles achieve a ranking of 23rd in Division III this season.
(Apr. 27) Emory University's 4x400-meter relay team of Alex Greenhouse, Chike Brennen, Jason Campbell, and Tyler Faits recorded the team's only first-place finish at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The relay team recorded a time of 3:19.45 in the event, the best by the team this season. Greenhouse also recorded individual all-UAA finishes in the 100-meter dash and the 400-meter hurdles, while Faits finished second in the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash, and both were part of Emory's all-UAA 4x100-meter relay team. Greenhouse, Brennen, Campbell and Faits combined to score 51.5 points during the meet for Emory, helping the Eagles to a third-place finish.
(Apr. 20) Emory University's Alex Greenhouse finished second in the 400-meter hurdles while competing at the Bulldog Limited. Greenhouse recorded his second-best time of the season in the event, crossing the finish line in a time of 54.47 seconds, just .17 seconds shy of a NCAA provisional qualifying mark. The junior all-American was also part of Emory's 4x100-meter relay team, which finished third in a time of 43.29 seconds. Greenhouse has led the Eagles to a ranking of ninth in Division III this season.
(Apr. 13) Emory University's Steve Dry recorded a NCAA provisional qualifying time while competing in the 110-meter hurdles at the Ole Miss Invitational. He was the top Division III finisher in the event, and fifth overall, with a time of 14.84 seconds, a personal-best for the junior. He also placed 35th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.85, a season-best mark for Dry.
(Apr. 6) Emory University's Alex Greenhouse recorded a season-best time in the 400-meter hurdles, while competing at the Gem of the Hills Invitational. Greenhouse finished second in the event with a time of 54.38 seconds, just .08 seconds shy of a provisional qualifying time. The junior all-American was also part of Emory's 4x100-meter relay team, which finished sixth in a time of 42.94 seconds. Greenhouse's performance helped the Eagles to a third-place finish at the meet.
(Mar. 30) Emory University's Zak Warsaw finished second in the hammer throw, while competing at the Emory University Classic. Warsaw recorded a distance of 41.85 meters (137 feet, four inches), good for the top mark among all collegiate athletes competing at the meet. The junior earned 10 points for Emory at the rain-shortened meet, helping the Eagles to a sixth-place finish.
(Mar. 23) Emory University's Paul Winterhalter won the 10,000-meter run while competing at the Emory University Invitational. Winterhalter finished first out of 22 runners in the race, recording a personal-best time of 31:45.87. The junior's time was the 10th-fastest in school history, and just 35 seconds shy of a provisional qualifying mark in the event. Winterhalter earned 10 points for the Eagles with the first-place finish, helping the Emory men finish second at their first meet of the outdoor season.
(Mar. 9) Emory University's Tyler Faits won a
pair of conference championships and totaled three all-conference
performances, while helping the Eagles to a first-place finish at
the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.
Faits was part of Emory's winning 4x400-meter relay team, which
recorded a time of 3:21.01 and gave the Eagles their one-point
victory at the meet. Faits also won the 400-meter dash with a
time of 49.25 seconds, the eighth-fastest mark in school history,
and finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.38
seconds, matching the sixth-best mark in school history.
(Mar. 9) Emory University's Tommy Fyffe won the
conference championship in the 5,000-meter run, while competing at
the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track and Field
Championships. Fyffe's time of 14:43.32 was good for a new
Emory record in the event, and an NCAA provisional qualifying
time. The junior also earned all-UAA honors in the
3,000-meter run, finishing third in the event with a time of
8:40.11, good for another school indoor record. Fyffe's
performances helped the Eagles win the UAA team championship.
(Mar. 2) Emory University's Steve Dry finished third in the 55-meter hurdles at the Sewanee Indoor Invitational. Dry recorded a time of 7.89 seconds in the finals of the event. The junior also finished the preliminaries of the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 7.79 seconds, the fastest by an Eagle this season and .06 seconds shy of a provisional qualifying mark. Dry's performance helped the Eagles to a third-place finish at the meet.
(Feb. 23) Emory University's Charles Meade recorded the fourth-fastest 3,000-meter run time while competing at the Clemson Tiger Invitational. Meade's mark of 8:44.54 was the fastest by an Emory runner this season, and a personal-best time for the junior. Meade was the top Division III finisher in the event, finishing second overall.
(Feb. 16) Emory University's Alex Greenhouse
recorded two of the top times in school history while competing
against a number of NCAA Division I schools at the Valentine
Invitational. Greenhouse finished 22nd in the 200-meter dash
with a time of 22.26 seconds, the third fastest in school
history. The junior all-American recorded the ninth-fastest
time in school history in the 400-meter dash, finishing 23rd
overall with a mark of 49.34 seconds.
(Feb. 16) Emory University's Charles Meade
recorded the second-fastest indoor mile time in school history,
while competing at the Valentine Invitational. Meade finished
32nd in the event with a time of 4:15.37. The junior's time
was .37 seconds shy of a provisional qualifying mark.
(Feb. 9) Emory University's Ian Francis became just the second athlete in Emory history to break 14 meters in the triple jump, while competing at the Tiger Indoor Invitational in Sewanee, TN. Francis finished first in the triple jump, reaching a distance of 14.01 meters, the fourth-best mark in school history and just .04 seconds shy of a provisional qualifying mark. The freshman also finished fourth in the long jump, recording a career-best distance of 6.63 meters, the longest by an Eagle this season. Francis' performance helped the Eagles finish third out of nine teams at the meet, and first among non-Division I schools.
(Feb. 2) Emory University's Tommy Fyffe was the
top Division III finisher in the 5,000-meter run at the Niswonger
Invitational. Competing in his first meet of the season,
Fyffe recorded a personal-best time of 14:50.98 in the event,
allowing him to finish eighth out of 59 competitors. It
marked the first time in the junior's career that he broke 15
minutes in the indoor 5,000-meter run.
(Feb. 2) Emory University's Charlie Meade recorded
a second-place finish out of 68 runners in the unseeded section of
the mile run at the Niswonger Invitational. Meade's time of
4:21.64 was the best by a Division III runner at the meet, and just
over a second shy of his career-best time.
(Jan. 19) Emory University's Alex Greenhouse recorded three top-10 finishes at the Appalachian State University Open. Competing against NCAA Division I and II opponents, Greenhouse finished third in the 400-meter dash, recording a personal-best time of 49.97 seconds, the third-fastest time in school history. The junior also finished eighth in the long jump, setting a career-best distance of 6.51 meters. He rounded out the meet as the anchor leg of the Eagles' 4x400-meter relay team, which finished second with a time of 3:24.72.
(Dec. 8) Emory University's Jason Campbell set
a personal-best time in the 800-meter run while competing at the
Holiday Open, hosted by Christopher Newport University.
Campbell, a 2008 indoor and outdoor track all-American, finished
third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.50. The mark
bested the sophomore's previous top indoor time of 1:58.75, set
last season.
(Dec. 8) Emory University's Alex Greenhouse
recorded a personal-best time in the indoor 400-meter dash at the
Holiday Open, hosted by Christopher Newport University.
Greenhouse finished ninth in the event in a time of 51.26 seconds,
besting his previous best time of 52.03 set in 2007. The
junior also recorded a 34th-place finish in the 55-meter dash with
a time of 6.63 seconds, and a 27th-place finish in the long jump
with a distance of 6.16 meters.
