2012-13 Emory Men’s Indoor Track and Field Season Recap

2012-13 Emory Men’s Indoor Track and Field Season Recap

Led by a combination of experienced veterans and a talented young group of competitors during the indoor season, the Emory University men's squad turned in a successful 2012-13 Indoor Track and Field campaign.

The Eagles finished fourth at the 2013 University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.  Emory scored 69 points during the two-day meet, finishing behind Carnegie Mellon (139 points), Chicago (87 points) and Washington University (78 points).

Emory was led by Mike Moserowitz at the UAA Indoor Championships, as the junior was named the conference's Most Valuable Performer for field events.  Moserowitz won the Eagles' only two individual conference championships, finishing first in both the long jump and triple jump.  He also teamed with freshman Maxwell Hoberman, freshman Adam Rabushka, and senior Isaac Chambers on the Eagles' all-UAA 4x400-meter relay team, which finished third at the meet.

Other Eagles adding all-conference finishes during the UAA Championships were Hoberman with a second-place finish in the triple jump and a third-place finish in the long jump, Rabushka with third-place finish in the 400-meter dash, and junior Brandon Bassell with a second-place finish in the high jump.

Emory saw one program record fall during the season, as junior Edward Mulder set the new school-best mark in the 3,000-meter run at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, SC.  Mulder's time of 8:37.77 broke the previous program record of 8:38.12, set by Paul Winterhalter in 2010.

Earlier in the season, Emory hosted its first indoor track and field meet in recent history, the Emory Crossplex Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama.  The Emory men's squad scored 95 points at the meet to finish second in the team standings.  The Eagles also sent a limited squad to compete at the DePauw Classic in Greencastle, Indiana, the team's only other scored meet during the regular season, finishing 10th out of 12 teams.

Three members of the Emory track and field team were recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom in 2013, as well as their performance during the indoor track and field season.  Isaac Chambers and senior Stephen Ellwood, along with Mike Moserowitz, were each named to the Capital One Academic All-District team.
