2014 Emory Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Season Recap

2014 Emory Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Season Recap

Emory University claimed conference championships in five events and qualified five runners for the NCAA Division III Championships during a successful 2014 outdoor track and field campaign.

The Eagles competed at the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the first time since the 2012 campaign, and sent its largest contingent of athletes to the meet since the 2008 season.  At the meet, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio, the Eagles’ 4x400-meter relay team of junior Zachary Rosenberg, sophomore Adam Rabushka, sophomore Maxwell Hoberman and junior Gui Silva set a school record with a time of 3:13.53, placing 11th overall in the event.  In addition, Silva competed individually in the 400-meter dash, finishing 16th in the preliminaries.

Earlier in the season, the Eagles finished third at the 2014 University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, scoring 141.5 points to place behind only first place Washington University (215 points) and second-place Carnegie Mellon University (166 points).  It marked the team’s best finish at the conference outdoor championships since the 2010 campaign, and the 14th top-three finish for the Eagles in 27 years of UAA competition.

Emory claimed UAA Championships in five events, also the most by an Eagles’ squad since the 2010 campaign.  Individual champions for Emory included junior James Bassen in the javelin throw, senior Mike Moserowitz in the long jump, Rabushka in the 110-meter hurdles, sophomore Jacob Seigel in the discus throw and Silva in the 400-meter dash.  The Eagles totaled all-conference honors in eight individual events and two relays during the meet.

The Eagles finished the regular season ranked second among men’s squads in the USTFCCCA South/ Southeast Region Poll.

Emory competed in three other scored meets during the 2014 outdoor campaign.  The Eagles opened the season by claiming third out of 23 teams at the annual Emory Invitational, and followed that performance with a second-place finish out of 14 teams at the Emory Classic.  Later in the campaign, the Eagles won the six-team Mountain Laurel Invitational, hosted by the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.
