Men's Track & Field Kicks Off Indoor Slate at BSC Icebreaker Meet

The Emory University Men's Track and Field team kicked off the 2017-18 indoor season Friday with the annual Birmingham-Southern College Icebreaker meet, held at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Eagles finished 11th overall as a team on Friday, scoring 15 points at the meet. Other competing schools included BSC, Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Brenau, Clayton St., Columbus St., Embry-Riddle, Florida A&M, Georgia Tech, Mississippi College, Mississippi Valley, Montevallo, Samford, Tennessee Wesleyan, Troy, Tulane, UAB, UT-Chattanooga and William Carey.

Emory was led on the day by a pair of six-point efforts by the Distance Medley Relay team and senior Phil Edwards in the 3000m Run. The DMR team of freshmen Jacob Hedgepeth, Kyle Fawzi and sophomores Chase Gornbein and Andrew Kliewer took fourth in the event in a time of 10:50.93. Edwards was sixth overall in the 3000m Run, clocking a time of 8:50.03.

Freshman Holden Ringer also scored in the 3000m Run as he placed ninth, netting one point, with a time of 8:58.04. Adding scores for the Eagles on Friday were freshman Liam Fost in the 400m Dash and the 4x400m Relay team of Fost, seniors Benjamin Rogin, Robert Wilhelm III and sophomore Alex Rand.

Fost was seventh individually in the 400m Dash as he finished in a time of 50.80. The 4x400 relay team took sixth as a unit, posting a time of 3:26.27. Rogin and Wilhelm also led Emory in individual events as Rogin placed ninth, just outside the scoring range, with a mark of 8.69 while Wilhelm was 11th with a sub-2:00 time of 1:59.85 in the 800m Run.

The Eagles will return to the Birmingham Crossplex when the calendar flips to 2018 as Emory is set to compete in the Alabama Striders Open on January 14th.
