Track & Field Teams Compete at UAB Vulcan Invitational

The Emory University Track and Field programs opened the spring semester on Saturday, competing at the UAB Vulcan Invitational at the Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama. There was no team scoring at the meet.

On the men's side, freshmen performers Brett Henshey and Jacob Solomon shined for the Eagles. Henshey posted a mark of 2.00m to come in third in the high jump and placing him tied for fifth on the school's all-time list in the event. Solomon, meanwhile, recorded a time of 7.12 in prelims of the 60m Dash. He also competed individually in the 200m Dash, taking 20th in a time of 23.45.

Sophomore John Cox turned in a personal-best time of 15:42.74 to lead the team in the 5000m Run, finishing second overall and in the 3000m Run, senior Bennett Shaw also registered a PR, placing fourth in a time of 8:50.13.

Other top performers for the Emory men on Saturday were junior Alex Rand in the 400m Dash (52.69), sophomore Jacob Hedgepeth in the 800m Run (1:59.56), freshman Jon Marcus in the Mile (4:31.05), freshman Lucas Werner in the 60m Hurdles (9.20) and freshman Yuri Brunner in the pole vault (3.65m).

For the Emory women, junior Isabel Saridakis highlighted the Eagles at the meet with a mark of 3.35m in the pole vault. She was one of eight top-10 efforts on the afternoon with sophomore Amanda Li (5th, 19:40.97-PR) and senior Heather Beavers (10th, 22:22.84) in the 5000m Run, sophomore Angela Cao in the 800m Run (8th, 2:21.72), sophomore Carrie McIntyre (9th, 5:17.68) and senior Kayla O'Shea (10th, 5:17.98-PR) in the Mile, sophomore Susannah Martin in the 3000m Run (9th, 10:43.07-PR) and sophomore Erin Yuder in the pole vault (9th, 2.90m- Tied-PR).

Additional event leaders on the women's side included freshman Jessica Barbarosh in both the 60m Dash (8.35) and 200m Dash (27.48), freshman Hannah Lansberry in the 400m Dash (1:01.65), freshman Annie Li in the 60m Hurdles (10.43) and sophomore Rebekah Bondi in the shot put (8.01m).

The Eagles will make a return trip to the Birmingham next Sunday, January 20th for the annual Emory Crossplex Invitational.
