Men's Track & Field Finishes Fourth at Crossplex Invitational; Whetstone Sets Meet Record in 5000m Run

Behind three event wins including a meet record, the Emory University Men's Track and Field team finished fourth at its home invitational on Sunday with 63.50 points, trailing only Lee (100.50 points), Troy University (72) and Alabama-Huntsville (66). The meet was held at the Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama.

Sophomores Jack Whetstone and Jacob Hedgepeth led the way for the Eagles on the afternoon in the distance events. Whetstone turned in a new personal best as well as a meet record in the 5000m Run, registering a time of 15:01.67, before Hedgepeth claimed a win in the mile with a PR of his own, crossing the finishing line in a time of 4:21.64.

Hedgepeth also contributed to Emory's third win of the meet, teaming with sophomore Thomas Perretta and freshmen Jon Marcus and William McGuire in the Distance Medley Relay as the group recorded a winning time of 10:38.24.

The Eagles added individual scoring performances by freshmen Anderson Shew (4th, 4:29.48) and Spencer Moore (6th, 4:30.93) in the mile, senior Bennett Shaw (5th, 15:36.26) and freshman Matthew Burke (8th, 15:57.22) in the 5000m Run, Perretta (6th, 1:58.05) and Marcus (7th, 1:58.24) in the 800m Run and junior Samuel Branson (5th, 8:46.69) and sophomore John Cox (6th, 8:51.14) in the 3000m Run.

In the field events, freshmen Brett Henshey and Connor Kamp paced the Eagles with Henshey taking fifth in the high jump at 1.90m and Kamp placing eighth in the long jump at 6.18m.

Emory rounded out Sunday's meet with a sixth place showing in the 4x400m Relay by sophomore Liam Fost, junior Alex Rand and freshmen Matthew White and Fernando Cardozo as the group clocked in at 3:25.27.
