Emory Track & Field Teams Compete at Samford Open

The Emory University Track and Field teams completed competition of the two-day Samford University Open on Saturday at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, AL. There was no team scoring at the meet.

Sophomore Liam Fost was among the top finishers for the Emory men’s team, posting a pair of personal-best times. First on Friday, Fost ran a 22.60 to lead an Eagles quartet in the 200m Dash prior to turning in the sixth-fastest time by an individual in school history in the 400m on Saturday, finishing 12th overall at 49.33. Fost also ran the lead leg of the 4x400m Relay with sophomore Thomas Perretta and freshmen Matthew White and Fernando Cardozo which placed eighth at 3:25.60.

Freshman Jon Marcus was fourth overall in 800m with a time of 1:55.98 that places him seventh on the program’s all-time best list while Perretta was sixth in the event with a personal-best of 1:56.22.

For the women, junior Nyla Lindo recorded the second-best mark by an individual in team history in the triple jump with a career-best 11.27m. She also turned in a season-best output in the high jump at 1.50m. Sophomore Carrie McIntyre registered a season and career best in the 3000m Run, running a 10:18.84 while the 4x400m Relay team of seniors Dilys Osei, Dani Bland, sophomore Michelle Rosenblum and freshman Hannah Lansberry registered a season-best mark of 4:02.13.

Osei and Bland each reached the semifinals of the 60m Hurdles and 60m dash with Osei posted a semifinal time of 9.32 and Bland clocking a 7.88 to place 13th. On Friday, Bland led an Emory trio in the 200m Dash with a top-10 finish, finishing ninth at 25.40.

Top additional event leaders for the Eagles at the meet included freshman Brett Henshey in the high jump (2.00m), sophomore John Cox in the 5000m Run (15:20.46), Cardozo in the 60m Dash (7.33), freshman Lucas Werner in the 60m Hurdles (8.77-PR), sophomore Matthew Dillon in the Mile (4:24.41-PR), junior Samuel Branson in the 3000m Run (9:02.80), freshman Patrick Crockett in the shot put (11.36m-PR)and sophomore Jacob Hedgepeth in the 1000m Run (2:33.74) on the men’s side and senior Paris Wagner in the weight throw (14.87m), junior Greta Wilker in the shot put (10.83m), sophomore Abby Durfee in the 5000m Run (18:51.86), senior Kayla O’Shea in the Mile (5:12.21-PR), Lansberry in the 400m (59.85), junior Ileana Zeissner in the 800m (2:24.94-PR) and sophomore Olivia Hoekendijk in the 1000m (3:14.89) for the women’s team.

Next up for the Eagles will be a pair of meets in the Sewanee Indoor Invitational and the USC Open at the University of South Carolina next Friday and Saturday in the final tune ups before the UAA championships at Brandeis University on February 23rd and 24th.
