Emory sophomore Bennett Shaw helped the No. 32-ranked Emory men's cross country team to a first-place finish in the team's season-opening meet of the year.

Shaw crossed the finish line in first place out of 66 runners at the Berry College Watermelon Race, covering the 8K course in a time of 27:04.  His effort spearheaded a strong Eagles' effort that saw them claim six of the top 10 overall finishers.

Emory topped the five-team field with 23 points while host Berry College claimed runner-up honors with 33 points.
