Emory Men's Cross Country Fifth At UAA Championships

The Emory men's cross country team recorded a fifth-place finish at the 30th Annual University Athletic Championships on Saturday.  The meet was held at the McIntosh Reserve Park in Whitesburg, Ga.

Racing on a sunny and warm day, the No. 22-ranked Eagles finished with 134 points.  No. 10-ranked Carnegie Mellon and No. 13 Washington University were recognized as co-champions after each squad totaled 58 points.  Brandeis was third with 96 points while NYU claimed the fourth spot with 121 points.

Senior Michael Sisario paced the Emory pack, covering the 8K course in a personal-best time of 25:05, good for eighth place overall out of 76 entries.  Sisario's effort enabled him to capture Second Team All-UAA honors. Senior Lukas Mees was the next Eagle finisher, clocking a 25:35 that placed 26th in the field. Junior Shane Sullivan came through with a personal-best mark of 25:50.07, slotting him 32nd, while sophomore Bennett Shaw was right behind him, recording a time of 25:50.8 that also established a personal best. Rounding out the team's scorers was senior Austin Hunt, who tied his personal best with a 26:03.9.

Washington University's David O'Gara topped all runners with an effort of 24:44, earning UAA Runner of the Year honors in the process. Ryan Stender of Brandeis was runner-up (24:46) while Sam Merriman of Case Western Reserve was third (24:49).

The Eagles return to action on Saturday, November 12, when they race at the NCAA South/Southeast Championships at Berry College
