Emory Cross Country Teams Return To Action

The Emory University men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Saturday (Oct. 1) when the squads split up to compete in a pair of competitions.  The Eagles will send a contingent to the 15th Annual Louisville Sports Commission Cross Country Classic, while also being represented at the 11th Annual JSU Foothills Invitational. The Louisville Classic will be held at the E.P. Tom Sawyer Park, the site of the 2016 NCAA D-III Championships (Nov. 19), with the men’s 8K starting at noon and the women’s 6K at 12:45, with the JSU Foothills meet being conducted at Oxford Lake and Recreation Center in Oxford, Alabama.

The Louisville Classic is a highly anticipated event and will feature approximately 49 women’s and 45 men’s programs. A number of regionally and nationally ranked teams will be competing in both races including D-III’s No. 1 North Central (IL) on the men’s side and the No. 15-ranked Hope College women’s team.

The women’s team was ranked 16th  in the Sept. 21 national poll released by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), and No. 1 in the South/Southeast Region,
while the men’s held down the No. 34 spot nationally. The men are ranked second in the South/Southeast Region.

In their last action (Sept. 17), the women’s team recorded a fourth-place finish out of 12 squads and the men sixth out of 13 at the Falcon Classic held on the campus of Montevallo University.
